    Titanium leader

Most of my fishing is on canoe trips into Canadian parks. What I like to catch is walleye and lake trout with a bass or two thrown in. What I frequently catch are northern. I am not a diehard fisherman.

    Titanium leader

On a boring morning I made 3 titanium leaders. In additional to the tools shown I used a plastic jawed vise to hold the tubing while I used the file to cut it. The tubing is available at HobbyKing and Ebay and the wire is available on ebay search for Knottable titanium. The tubing is 1/16 th...

    Does Epoxy resin go bad?

I have used some epoxy paint that was over 50 years old. I painted a bench top just to use it up. It worked well. I have some Shell oil epoxy that is over 30 years old and it still works but needs to be heated to dissolve the crystals.

    Charging a phone while tripping

Big Al Thanks for the information. The data looks reasonable. Your charger has about 1.1 Ah/oz and .85 Ah/in^3. Those are very reasonable numbers and very achievable with battery technology today.

    Charging a phone while tripping

Allen Your phone test will not translate to wilderness tripping where there are no cell towers. When the phone can’t get a response back from a tower it keeps trying until it runs the battery down. This can be prevented by shutting the phone function off. As an experiment you might leave your...

    Measuring and changing rocker

I have KeelEazy keel guards which are about 1/16 thick and if they were removed the negative rocker would be gone so the boat is not badly hog back. It also does not have what I expected when I used the manufactures specks to choose a boat. My guess is it is a misprint on the manufactures web...

    Measuring and changing rocker

Glenn Thank you for the response. I like the way a canoe paddles with a little rocker and was looking for experience other may have had in changing the rocker on a canoe.

    Measuring and changing rocker

I have cut up some scrap lumber and forced it between the gunnels at the 3 thwart locations. The gunnels are now wider at the 3 thwarts by 1.625 &1.75 & 1.125 inches. Measuring the rocker it has been increased by about 7/16 inch. Alan nailed it in that foam cores don’t change much. I had...

    Measuring and changing rocker

With this boat and at the speed we are paddling and stern heavy I can still control it. I had a different canoe that the only way to stop a turn was to drag a paddle or slow down. When I notice that with this canoe it required more effort to control the canoe the faster we were going I got...

    Measuring and changing rocker

I mentioned 60 lb bow paddler because I have seen problems with heavy bow paddlers. We are bow high in the water although I put the heavier pack right behind him.

    Measuring and changing rocker

By hard to control I meant one a turn has started the canoe wants to continue turning that direction. The faster it is going the more the effect is noticed. That is correct 2&1/2 ‘ of the canoe is outside the area measured. Any further out toward the ends and a little error in location makes a...

    Measuring and changing rocker

I have a smaller tandem canoe about 3 years old. The only person in the front seat has been a 60 pound youngster. He is developing his paddling skill and last summer he worked hard at doing his share of keeping the canoe moving. I noticed when he was paddling hard the canoe was harder to...

    Voyagers challenge 2019

Glad you enjoyed it. It is sometimes fun to see how others trip. I have the medium height seat in the rapidfire and that is only a couple of inches off the floor. The rapidfire comes with a cloth strap as a back rest that did not work for me. I made a narrow wood back rest that is fastened to...

    Voyagers challenge 2019

Jim I was not the only 70+ year old who did the challenge. Goonstroke My canoe was a Placid Rapid Fire. I still have a Magic but only use it when I need to carry a lot of gear. Breakfast was some kind of cereal with added pecans and dried fruit. Each days breakfast was in a Ziploc bag with...

    Voyagers challenge 2019

Grand Portage was long but not a bad portage. I enjoyed most of it. The day I fell and then got blown off the water was not a good day. I did not like the rapids. I believe 2 of the tandem boats got damaged in the rapids. There were more than one starting point. Muddyfeet started 30 miles...

Multiday Adventure Race Canoe - Composite

Have you been able to see the rudder bending while the boat is being paddled? It would be best if you could see it rather than just my description. PS Wow what a boat.
