    16' Cedarwood Prospector

No Title nice boat! the bottom seems rounder on these than most prospectors that i've seen, sitting side-by side with a fiberglass nova-craft in the garage, it's very pronounced. not sure which is closer to the 'nut, tho i expect the nova-craft is. the cedarwood is much more, lets call it...

    Duluth #4

No Title nice! i picked up a #4dlx this spring...mostly i'm a woods-pack guy, but have always been intrigued by the three-strap tribe...it holds a lot. is perfect for a solo few days with my too-large canvas campfire tent that i use in the shoulder seasons...(which is bulk more than mass, so...

    first aid kit

can't understate training...the primary element in any preparation. might be worthwhile to look into wilderness first aid courses -- the focus on most first aid courses is stabilize for transport -- often in wilderness situations help is hours or days away and a more in-depth approach is...

    ambroid cement

seems that it's out of print again. i am waiting for 2oz. from ebay in the mail at about $15 an ounce...probably isn't worth it...but that smell...

What has the world come to? A retail rant

MEC has lost sight of their core values... i lived thru their ridiculous colours, but still great gear, in the 80's & early 90's...tho i bemoaned the passage of their woolen knickers in 1988... there is less and less reason to go there for me now, they stopped carrying backcountry ski gear...

    Favorite dehydrated/semi-lightweight camp dinner?

dehydrating the flash-frozen food was so easy it felt like cheating. i like to bring some instant mashed potatoes...i tend more towards pasta and rice, but the mash is a nice textural change from time to time...some gravy, some tvp, dried veggies...a not bad shiphard pie...

    re-furbished woods packs

picked up a pair of circa 1970's woods packs from the local classified last week for not at all much money. older couple used them back in the day, don't trip these days, cleaning out the garage, were happy to see them go to a good home for a token amount. the usual wear-and tear, holes, tears...

Wanted to Purchase - 17-18 foot wood canvas tripping boat

nice to see people still tripping in WC... i think there is a 17.6" 'cruiser' in muskoka kijiji...might be a ways to portage...

    My new to me pack

i use smaller dry-bags inside for the important stuff. i never liked the huge single bag inside thing, these things are just too handy for stuffing and cramming, plus there is a level of redundancy...eggs in one basket and all that...the canvas is pretty weather resistant as-is. after about 25...

5-night standard loop in Algonquin Park

Sturgeon -- have you tried the new(ish) 5.0 jeffmap -- i had the same complaint on his earlier maps, and used chrismar for on-water navigation also, but i find the better contrast and less-busy new map pretty sufficient stand-alone now...i grabbed an older 4.0 from the 'pile' last week for some...
