    Klepper Kamerad TS rebuild

No Title Due to Mike's computer/internet skills I am posting these pictures for him of the what the Comarade hull looked like when it was picked up. Pretty nasty. I think he made a turd look like a rose when it was all done with! Kudo's Mr. McCrea!

Alan, I really wouldn't if I were you unless your mail delivery person has a great sense of humor! ;-)

    Preferred gunwale material?

I use ash because I can buy 20' boards of it and mill out my own vs buying them and paying through the nose for shipping. I am a varnish guy as I know I am too lazy to oil them a few times a year. As long as I store them inside the ash seems to weather well. With that said I am intrigued by...

    The End of A Trip

Many years ago two of us started a trip from the banks of the St. Lawerence to the Gulf of Maine. We made 400 miles in the first push, several years later 160 in the second push and finally this July finished the last 50 miles or so. All by canoe and following ancient canoe trails that Hal the...

    spray covers

I'd love one for my up coming trip, tomorrow. Never did get one but see the value in having on. I like your idea Robin. May need to make one for my Kevlar Malecite one day. Would love to see how you did that.

    Building New Decks

I'm hell bent on getting this canoe done. This morning I laid down a coat of spar on the underside of the decks and a second coat on the carry handles. Now it was time to install the seat hangers and seats. Ok, using the McCrea hangers my bolts were too short. Of course I needed six inch...

    Building New Decks

Up early and decided to do the resin work before the heat, 90's today, hit. I cut out some Dynel and laid it down on the bottom of the decks. It may be overkill but I do want these strong. Simple work. One of the carry handles had one end where it was drilled through too close to end and had...

    Building New Decks

Mr. McCrea, the package was a hit at the Post Office. Instead of having a red face now when it's delivered we laugh! I recently spent a few hours routing over the edges and sanding the decks. When I was fairly happy with those results I laid a couple of coats of spar varnish on the tops only...

    Building New Decks

No Title Kim, I can go to Goosebay Lumber a few towns from here and get a large variety of woods but good to know about Rockler. I like to stick with wooden decks for these older hulls...probably cause I'm an old fart who likes that kind of traditional look ;-) Ah, clamps! I need more...

    Building New Decks

Clamps are like socks in the laundry, seems you have enough and then there aren't cause they seem to disappear! Or the shop fairy is hiding them on me! ppine, had to look up the Charger, not very familiar with the Sawyer's. Looks like a fast boat! Nice.

    Building New Decks

I picked up a kevlar Mad River Malecite and am at the point where I'm building new decks. Not a big project but I am using the last of my coveted Butternut wood. It's a nice wood to work with and MR use to make a lot of their decks with it. I started with an eleven foot board by six inches wide...

    Stoked about an upcoming trip?

Kim, We may start at Cousin's Island because my buddy has a camp there and head up the coast. He's also a member of the MIT so we'll be good that way. We've been out there before and use a lot of caution. I prefer rivers and lakes to ocean with open boats but this is the end of a trip that...

    Stoked about an upcoming trip?

My buddy and I have been hacking away at trying to finish a trip we started 15 years ago. Funny how life interfer's with canoe trips! First stint was about 400 miles from the St Lawerence Seaway down to Veise, ME paddling solo boats, MR Explorer and Disco 158, something like 9 rivers and 12...

    Jack's Special/ Chestnut Chum

"Rustic is probably the best description right now." is what you wrote. If that is rustic I'd stand in awe of what you consider nice! I couldn't make that if you gave me a hundreds tries with free wood! Very nice, eye candy! Am glad you're cutting the bolts down, I have a hardware store...

    Stability notes

I've been paddling my 158 for over 15 years and have never had problems with stability. I solo it so do sit in the front seat facing the back. I can't remember the last time I sat in the back seat facing the front! As Mem mentioned with the seats up high you might run into stability issues...
