Love to join in but can't take time off right now. Haven't done much on the CT, one time we did we got wind bound! The Saco might come up, we're forecast for some rain. Keep an eye on the gauge. I'll PM you this weekend. dougd

Three days, two nights, 3-4 hours from Boston

Erik, When we do the Saco we put in at Swan's Falls and head to the Old Course going up that to the covered bridge. Just before the bridge is a leanto we've used several times as the owner's don't mind us camping there. From there we sometimes head out to Keyser Pond/Lake for a view of Mt...

    Chestnut Canoe on CL

Saw this on CL and thought I'd post it here. It looks to be in pretty good shape wood wise and they say it needs new canvass. Thought someone here might be interested. It's in Glen Falls, NY. http://glensfalls.craigslist.org/bod/5832565151.html

    Annual Gentleman's Trip

Well, it was an interesting run out. My boat is doable in the conditions we had but not as good as either yours, Scott's or John's boats and although I'm not the fastest paddler I am steady and strong enough to hold my own. What ya bring and how ya pack dictates the amount of beverages you can...

    Aluminum Pole Treatment

I have one pole that is 1" in diameter and had another that was something like 1 1/4", lost that one. I use a 12' pole but know of some folks who use them shorter as well as longer, anywhere from 9' to 16'. Too short and long for me. I'm not sure of the gauge. I looked at Ed Hayden's page...

    DIY Utensil holder

I have something similar that I got with my kitchen Duluth Pack back in 99'. It sure is nice in camp to have that hanging. Nice job on the sewing job BTW, I wouldn't even attempt it and besides I'm banned for life from the sewing machine! ;-)

Wollaston Lake to Goose Lake (Nunavut Border) and back

Many years ago coming down the Albany River headed to the James we had a tough time finding campsites. The trees were so thick it was like doghair, not much space between them. We camped on rocks more then once as well as more then one island. One of those islands was infested with snakes...

    Bringers of Rain

Road trips can be tiring but I enjoy them, just the fact you're seeing new places. Your pics of the spider webs and mushroom are wonderful. Thanks for sharing the adventure. dougd

    Annual Gentleman's Trip

We came up from the south, Black Brook Cove and stayed at Lincoln Brook. Been on Richardson, sucks, as well as Umbagog a lot for various reasons sucks as well. We typically go to Rapid River for Umbagog so as not to deal with Umbagog idiots who come up to the campsite and question us when I...

    Annual Gentleman's Trip

Since 2002 a bunch of us have taken off for a spin off of the Maryland Gentleman's Trip. Thanks Mr. McCrea. This year we headed out to Aziscohos Lake in Rangeley, Maine. Six players, six boats of various types and vintages and we had an excellent time. Here's a link to my write up if you...

17-Day Temagami Tour PART THREE: Willow Island Lake - Lake Temagami

Excellent! I have been waiting for this for a while now! I'm going to show some restraint and save it for work in the morning! I have enjoyed the first two parts of this adventure immensely! In fact I'm trying not to read Murat's reply!

    Places that "grab you"

Not as far away as you go Kim. I don't know what it is about this place but Sunday Cove on Lake Umbagog is one of my all time favorite places always in off season. dougd

Leaving tonight - SPOT tracking page

Welcome back Alan! I was glad to see the SPOT over the border and figured everything went well. Glad you weren't hassled. It's sounds like you made a good call on the trip and will be looking forward to reading the TR after you finally settle back in. Am betting Sadie was happy to get home...

Leaving tonight - SPOT tracking page

Glad to hear Alan is on the road home. Can't even imagine getting to my vehicle and find it broken into after so many days out in the wilds. What is impressive but not surprising is how fast so many folks stepped up to the table with help, it just goes to show that us paddlers stick together...
