Marathon Shop Days - Sailing Tripper Rebuild with DougD and Joel

Here's my write up on the whole affair including some paint work when I got home. I got out on the local river with a good friend who took it for a test ride and as he pulled into shore declared it was like riding in a Cadillac. Now I'm looking for some caddy emblems to add as that is the new...

    Klepper Kamerad TS rebuild

No Title I had the pleasure of doing the original stripping of the TS. I'm sure in the day it was made this was high tech but dang those seats look mighty uncomfortable. As for the pool noodles, well there were a lot of them, enough to fill 3 garbage bags. Two layers worth with the top ones...

Marathon Shop Days - Sailing Tripper Rebuild with DougD and Joel

No Title Here's some pictures in no particular order of the job as a teaser. One of the pics is of the hull with the original seats in and you can see the double reinforcement on the bottom of the hull. Believe or not those are wooden dowels glassed in to stiffen the hull. What was very nice...

    More on Royalex

Yeah, yeah, I'm the poster child for canoeing! I bought that boat cause it was cheap I was pretty broke at the time. But, I have paddled, poled and sailed that boat for many, many miles. First thing I did was take out those ungodly plastic seats and put in cane. That dropped almost 12 or 15...

    Webbing a canoe seat?

Spent about 3 hours re-webbing a couple of seats today. I find it enjoyable to do this task, just measure, melt and staple on. I had to resort to using some different types of webbing but it all turned out ok. I have never done contour seats so this was a hair of a learning curve but it turned...

    Webbing a canoe seat?

I now save all my old seats as long as the ends are good and then take the cane out and put in webbing. I have a write up somewhere and will post. It's very easy to do. I use black webbing as that is what is available locally and is cheap. I will also post a place where I've ordered before for a...

    Source for Mad River Decks

Robin, I looked for some for my Courier and they just aren't around, I couldn't find any anyways and believe me I inquired. I ended up making my own and am going to do the same for the Kev Malecite I have in the shop. If you find a place let me know and good luck! BTW, I tried luan and it...

    Pre-season rituals

I break out all of my gear and start going through it. Set up the tent and check all the lines and try to clean out the sand/leaves that I missed in the late fall, air out the sleeping bag, check the air mattress for leaks, go through the cook kit, make sure I have new soap, scrubby. One year...

Here's another link: http://users.gmavt.net/petermac/peterNFCT.html I emailed him after I read his account and will hopefully have the chance to meet him next time in VT. Sounds like a great guy and builds his own boats. Hope this helps.

Removing stains from a RX canoe UGH

I agree with Dennis as I have use that as well. Not sure about the black spots but it might work. Don't bother with Goo Gone, that stuff is toxic as hell. If you can find Dawn Power Dissolver that should do the trick but it is hard to find. That stuff works great on cleaning up hulls.

    Bigelow Brook to the Natchaug

CanoesWithDuckHeads, CWDH, made the journey north from Maryland and managed to get a bunch of us Northern boys to run a gem of a river. Bigelow Brook doesn't run often but with this rain and snow melt from this winters ravage, that would be snow, it was running hard. Seven of us showed up and...

    Yet Another Canoe

Philtrum, The Eclipse I had didn't seem to oil can and I used it a far amount before letting it go. I like the hull well enough to buy it and at the price they are asking I almost feel criminal buying it! But, I swear this is my last purchase, I swear!!! Gonna give up CL and wear blinders...

    Yet Another Canoe

There is truly something wrong with me. With 7 hulls already I'm slotted to pick up a Mad River Eclipse in two weekends. Had one and sold it and have secretly cried about that for a while now. Saw this for short change and just had to have it. Best part is I don't have to do a thing to it...

    Solo expedition build

Jim just jogged my memory. I tried Super77 on one job and it did hold everything in place while letting the cloth, in my case C/F, take in the resin. Worked very well. I picked it up at WallyWorld for about 10$.
