I've got a modern 4 door jeep , a sorry answer for my longing for an old willys , from time to time I see an original on craigslist but alas I'm a hopeless dolt when it comes to mechanical aptitude. Beautiful union of my two favorite modes of transportation , Tamarack !

While up in Maine last week I came across two well traveled fellows who were cooking on a fire box as illustrated in Mason's "Song of the Paddle". They had two sizes and said they were still available & swore by them, but I cannot find the source online . Anyone have a lead on these ?

A dog at best is perimeter security , an alarm system . I think dogs realized humans vie for top predator thus became our friends. Thus that happy alliance works more for them than for us .

Canotrouge ," What a beautiful saying"! I love it. We have some pretty big black bears in Pennsylvania but those Grizzlys are a horse of a different color. My uncle was stationed in Alaska during the Korean War and told stories how you had better keep your wits about you. No Joke !

I think Canotrouge is right on , a porcupine is your best bet.Other small game would occupy an enormous amount of time without a weapon or brass wire for snares plus have very little caloric value (fat). Fish also without some carbohyrdate . Hunting / gathering would consume all your waking...

While I'm a dyed in the wool W/C lover , I have to say Eidolon canoe is stunning. Those cherry gunnels are beautiful & I'm sure technically challenging as cherry can often be difficult .

Al , bought a license, rod & tackle to the campsite , but left it onshore during our day trip, I have a good memory , its just not very long .

the great thing about a canoe is you can bring anything you want as long as you have enough freeboard.

I often sneak the collapsing umbrella from the brides suv , to bring on trips as its only 18" long, but the ease a following wind allows out weights the browbeating upon return.

No danger with that last piece of bacon as the bear will have to fight me over it, and he better watch out I might beat him with my umbrella! :rolleyes:
