    The Purge (river style)

Wow. let's chill. The original premise of this thread was that I was going to kill them... Tongue in cheek. No property was ever harmed or stolen. No one was taught a lesson. I simply hauled out their abandoned trash. I wasn't really bragging either, just posting about an issue that bugs me. On...

    The Purge (river style)

Oddly it did, but then I'm from Central Pennsylvania;) I agree with Bothwell Voyager, paddlers seem to leave a lot of stuff too. I've found a frying pan, bow saw , hatchet and too many chairs to count. Little pieces of paracord everywhere. You don't see it until night when your flashlight picks...

    The Purge (river style)

Lol, you are not the first person to call me a jerk. I actually believe the floats were abandoned as they were already partially deflated and the more valuable rec kayaks were gone and since I destroyed 3 floats, I'm technically a vandal not a thief. Joking aside, they were left as trash. I'd...

    The Purge (river style)

If you are not familiar with the movie "The Purge", one day a year it is legal to kill anyone you want... I was camped on the river this weekend. My site was on a large pool with a rope swing directly across the river from me. This time of year, the river is low and temperatures are high, so it...

    Blue Canoe Barrels

I just got my new 30L from US Plastics. It appears to be the same barrel as the RBW barrel minus the sticker.

    Blue Canoe Barrels

Messing around last night. I am trying to get multiple tie down points so the barrel does not roll around in the boat. I was using just the handles but i want it rock solid. I looked at a harness, but don't need the pack straps. I came up with this, untested.

Wolf attack family inside a tent in Banff National Park

This wolf story was on national news this morning. The only picture they have of the family must be from face book. They are all doing weird faces in the pic. If there is a lesson to be learned here, it's be careful what you post.

    Solo Tripping is Safer

Interesting read... I'm going solo this Saturday. 8 miles overnight on the river, and I'm type 1 diabetic, and I don't have cat, and my dog is too much of a spaz to ride in the boat... Wish me luck, lol

A good bear story with a happy ending

That is one tough guy. I wouldn't sell the knife either.

    Blue Canoe Barrels

^^^^Thanks, I hadn't seen their website. I found a few outdoorsy vendors on Amazon but the prices seem really inflated. These barrels are produced mainly for industrial purposes and are re-purposed by canoeists. I found several manufacturers selling them to industry but it's only value if you...

    Blue Canoe Barrels

I found a 60 liter barrel in a local surplus store for $19. I tried it out and now I'm obsessed with barrels. They did not have any smaller barrels so I've begun searching them out on line. I just ordered an 8 gallon (30 liter) from US Plastics for $55 including shipping. Where are you all...

    Weekend on the Little Juniata

Conk, I have to agree. The stretch after Tyrone is some of the best class II I've done. I had to google snubbing. It looks like a blast. The little J needs to be 2.5 to go from Tyrone but is most fun at 3 to 3.5. At 4 plus, it is washed out and dangerous. Maybe next Spring we all hook up...

    Weekend on the Little Juniata

Barry, nice, small world. I love camping in the gorge because it's so close to home and really secluded. I've seen a Bald Eagle on my last 2 trips. The gorge is getting a lot of use this summer, unfortunately not all good. I've been hauling pots/pans, burnt cans, balls of foil and even lawn...

At the mercy of a shuttle service?

I use a shuttle service from an outfitter when we do Pine Creek in the PA grand canyon. It saves so much time and let's us get an earlier start. I look at it this way. Canoes/kayaks really don't require much money to maintain. Even a bicycle has wear parts and needs constant servicing. My...
