    Furniture build- Need help

Attention all you shipwrights... This is the seat out of my boat. I want to build a light weight base so that I don't need to bring a camp chair. Here is my idea. I'm not sure how to attach the seat? I could cut "c" shaped notches and just the put the seat on top but I'm not sure that is...

    Old Town Next?

Mike, I have never sat in any of the seats you linked but one thing they appear to have in common is they attach to a rigid flat canoe bench. As you can see in these pictures, this seat is not flat, it slopes back. It is very comfortable. The back rest can lay back to nap point (verified) or you...

Canoe Hoist using a Worm Gear

My lifting capacity is limited by the pulleys I used. I have one pulley at the ceiling directly above the winch and another pulley above the canoe. The winch is says it is rated for 2000lbs but the pulleys I used are not rated. My buddies boy (typical 19 y.o.) sat on the bracket and rode it...

Canoe Hoist using a Worm Gear

I put this together to lift my canoe. My garage ceiling is 10’ so this gets up high enough to easily walk under. Complete cycle takes about 45 seconds. I welded up this bracket a few years ago to lift the hard top off my Jeep. It worked out perfectly to lift the canoe. The beauty of a worm gear...

How Do You Do Your Dishes?

This mesh bag, in size medium, is perfect to hold a roll of paper towels. I've used it for several years now. It keeps them from un-spooling everywhere and easily smashes into my barrel.

How Do You Do Your Dishes?

I usually volunteer for KP because someone else has cooked. The largest dirty cooking pot becomes the sink. I wipe it out with a paper towel which goes into the fire. I fill the pot 1/2 with river water and heat to a temp just below what hurts. Add a few drops of dish liquid then wash all other...

    Hemlock SRT Solo Canoe Review

Great review. That is a serious boat! You can see by your photos how high it sits. I'd bet it will be great for rapids.

Safely tying in gear, and storing lines

I did my first and only wet exit from tent into the Tygart River. I was camped along the Tygart in a field on a caving weekend. The river was high but we were watching the bank closely. It appeared it would need to rise a at least 6 inches before it would crest the bank when I checked it before...

    Old Town Next?

Ode to a Next Canoe Your reviews are like a trip to the zoo You have no rocker to speak of And your seat gets no love Your weight is obscene And your hull is not “green” But you were on sale So I will just bail When I run the rapids for Funda Now here you are in the back of my Tundra

    Another Spray Skirt/Spray Cover Thread

Too many choices! Lol. I’ve been taking my canoe on my local class2- lately. I really like the open hull and the ability to easily take my camping gear but I hate bypassing wave trains. I think a splash skirt on the front would really help. I’m bailing for now!
