Need for Permanent Memorial Topic on Departed Canoeists

I am realizing this needs to be a topic, not merely a thread. Next time I deal with the IT guy, I will see if that can be accomplished.

    Ice on the gunwales

I think I am done for a couple of months, but I still have one canoe (covered) out on the trailer, complete with snow and ice. I too had a good fall paddling season. No, I would say it was great! First fall in several years that my over-use, joint-ligament bothers did not crop up and slow down...

FYI, I have moved SarahSimm's post, with a question about camp coffee, to a new thread started for her question, in "Camp Kitchen"

Recommend a coffee maker? I'm done bearing a heavy thermos

SarahSimm: I am moving your post from the "Winter Camping" topic, and starting it here in a new thread under the "Camp Kitchen" topic. The thread in "Winter Camping," in which you posted your question, concerns hot tent heaters. I would rather not jumble that thread up. Some topics, like camp...

Old Friends Photo Essay, Volume Tom

Fun to revisit good old times. I've been thinking about the 70s and 80s a lot lately. I might have peaked too soon. Someday, I will digitize all those old slides.

    Older than dirt

lyle: I do not understand your post. If you need some kind of help for other than a canoe-related issue, this website forum is not the correct or effective place to ask for it. I do not intend to be harsh. If you need help, I sincerely hope you can find the proper assistance.

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

OK, Mike, you've spurred me on. But, it will take me way more than one hour! I found one of the stashes of snap button rivet hardware. Snaps one side: And then the other: Too many guns: Skinny nozzle for snaps: Rivet and washer:

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Mike, I appreciate the effort and detail you put into these outfitting posts, as I am sure the rest of the community appreciates as well. The pictures are invaluable, and I do not find you wordy. You write a lot of words because you have a lot of worthwhile information to impart. Not much fluff...

    It's wool season

Everyone knows to wear fleece or synthetics, not cotton. Few give much thought to wool, but they should. I switched to wool a long time ago. It just feels warmer and has a greater temperature comfort range, among many other attributes.

Paddling humor: one-liners said to you while paddling

Casual boaters always think they are being so clever with the "going the wrong way" comments. reminds me of a scene from one of my favorite movies: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uDY1z6ezqO4 "Oh, he's drunk. How would he know where we're going?"

    DIY No-Sewing Spray Covers

Great stuff, Mike. Lots of tips born of experience. Really helpful in cogitating several winter post-holiday projects. I compiled and summarized some of your tips on spray covers, for my future reference, and made a few comments. Might as well post it: Roll visqueen, heat-sealable fabric...

Project Boat – Mad River Independence

Great outfitting stuff, as usual. Lots of best practices and small tips based on experience. Like offsetting the pad eye on the thwart to minimize possible grain split. Having rear thwart 10" or so from seat to help with paddler weight, and back band attachments. Keeping vertical screws holes in...

Rebuild of a Mad River Traveler

I am hopeful that I can get the photo problem resolved soon. In the meantime, one work-around is to post the picture in the body of the post. This works from a windows pc, but I am not sure if it works using other systems: Make sure the curser is in the place where you want the picture to go...
