Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

First warm enough day to enjoy sitting on deck, waiting for the eclipse. Some clouds. Wondering if Churchill was right that never have so many waited so long for so little.

Supermarket Food Ideas for Extended Tripping

I like Trader Joe's selection of nuts, dried fruit, bars, and such. Instant mashed potatoes and stove top stuffings are compact and tasty. I learned to like spam at Philmont - with mustard and cheese. I'm not a fan of oatmeal - too much like wallpaper paste - but grape nuts with dried fruit and...

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

Eclipse craziness has taken hold here in totality lane. All the seasonal restaurants and stores are opening ahead of usual. Village is filled with cars. They should of put up the parking meters rather than wait till Memorial Day as usual.

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

New cars: are they as impossible as they seem for cartopping?

I will only add I've had no trouble cartoppingbon my 2018 Outback. Hood loops anchored with a screw that was there. Thule bars - a 56" and a 76" set for carrying two. And for long distances I tie the stern to the tow hitch - the loop where the safety chain attached. Surprisinfly, the bow ties...

    My Perfect Solo River Canoe

I have a Swift Prospector 14 Pack and it does have a lot of initial stability. Not at all "tender". Fun to paddle, both single and double blade.

I'm staying home probably. 3:15 of totality. Might go 20 miles to inlaws - they live dead center of totality.

"Drag-ability" of hull material over rocks in river beds and on portages

Big difference dragging loaded or empty also.

"Drag-ability" of hull material over rocks in river beds and on portages

The conclusion I'm reaching is just let your kevlar hull get scratched. It's probably not going to break. If you don't mind more weight (I do) t-formax is an option. It will bother me to see scratches but I can take it back to factory for renewed finish (or diy if inclined).

Thinking about a Quetico trip starting at French lake - need a little help.

I think park at and pick up permit at Dawson Trail if that's where you want to enter the park. Could camp there night before if necessary.

Not for me. I thought this added some physical protection of the fabric. And saves a few pounds?

    Canoecopia 2024

Just noting that jdeerfoot, Bob B, and I met for breakfast today and it was very nice to put faces to posts here. I think a good time was had by all - including Bob's dog Jake, and hope we can do it again and more members can make it.

Swift with new "UV shield" and Heat cured Epoxy resin built boats new for 2024

They were demoing this at canoecopia. They had samples and would scrap it hard with a rock. Looked pretty scratched. Then wipe or buff hard with soft cloth, then repeat with 303. You could still see some surface imperfections if the reflection was just right, but generally the scratches did...
