Just found this out of the way place to paddle

I fell like it would only be one time with a gator.

    Which Subaru?

My Outback is 6.9 and tolerable but liked my RAV4 at 6.2 better. For me it has to do with passing cars going 10 mph below speed limit in twisty Adirondack roads.

    Which Subaru?

0 to 60 in the Sienna is 7.9 seconds and in the Ascent it's 6.8 seconds. Both without canoe on roof.

Are there any other states that provide a 'Lake Finder?'

googling "NYS Lake finder" does provide guides, though they seem to be fishing oriented, not broader uses like MN.

What U.S. or Canadian documentation do you need to cross into the other country and back?

We live very near CA border in upstate NY, cross border frequently. Enhanced DL works both ways. It was very easy to obtain. Show a SS card or W2 with SSN, a bank statement or utility bill, and just $30 extra. Very easy. I'm This from NY DMV web site: "An Enhanced license (permit, or...

Grade A boat or a second?

Even Souris River, not known for aesthetics, would discount significantly for a blemish like described.

Grade A boat or a second?

Agree with snapper. It's a "blem". Ask for a replacement.

    Oswegatchie Questions

Nice and instructive report Chip. I'm interested in what areas in Adirondacks if any you find more "wilderness" like. Most of my paddling is split between BWCAW and Quetico PP, both much more wilderness like than anything I've found in Adirondacks.

    Oswegatchie Questions

I've been twice - 3 yrs ago and last year. Saw no one 3 years ago and only a couple other parties last year. I really don't think you'll have any trouble finding a camp site.

Due to bad health, selling We No Nah Rendezvous (retired), along with paddles and many tripping items.

All very good deals IMHO. Wish you were closer, I'd take several items. Condolences for not being able to use it. My time is coming.

    Which Subaru?

I like my 2018 Outback with 6 cylinder. Nice for passing on 2 lane country roads. Also a little lower than Forester. I just can't get used to the 4 cylinders - just seem underpowered.

Help, I need to expand my horizons.

Living near Canadian border we cross frequently and it's gotten very easy. Worst is a 5 to 10 minute wait. Limited portages seems to exclude BWCAW and Quetico and a number of the Canadian provincial parks. (I think the BWCAW permit system and campsites are easier than you suggest. For sure...

The most picturesque places you've paddled

I go for the little creeks with narrow channels and absolute quiet except for the wildlife. A patch of water lillies against some reeds, maybe a Big old turtle on a log. Isabella Creek in the Quetico is one of my favorites.

    Dump cakes

I've found one - 2 cans beaches, 1 yellow cake, 1 can soda, 1 stick of butter. Seems safe. I'm guessing the ones with soda are more fruit crumble or crisp than cake.

    Dump cakes

Thanks. One of our troops adults was a fabulous cook - the best. We always looked forward to the weekends he was on. Made a dump cake with ginger ale and fruit cocktail - the vile stuff our mom's - mine at least - put in jello for church suppers. The dump cake with fruit cocktail was just...

    Dump cakes

Going on (2) NFCT work weekends and took dump cake ingredients last year. I've always made dump cake with 1 large can of pie filling, 1 box cake mix, and a stick of butter. Just checking online recipies and finding variations to include 1 or 2 cans of filling, 3 to 12 tablespoons of butter...
