    What "is" a Canoe?

Hey Mem,,,,fish gotta swim, birds gotta fly. Some of us gotta be curmudgeonly. Unless I'm pushed into a corner I'm a live and let live curmudgeon. In my little world there are things that might look like a canoe to the average Joe that don't pass the muster. I'm speaking of those things that are...

    Chestnut Chum questions

Memaquay mentioned a boat patterned after the Chestnut Pal. I have both a Pal and a Bob's Special. The Pal is 16' x 34"and the Bob is 15' x 35". I solo trip in the Pal and it works great for me. I have tandem tripped a couple times in it as well. Its no pack horse. Think medium loads at most. I...

Smoke headed your way for tomorrow?

So far it's looking better this morning in eastern Iowa. I don't see the air quality warning on the weather page. Yesterday visibility was about 1 mile in places. On the humerus side, thanks to a past episode of covid, I haven't been able to smell the smoke. I guess I got that going for me...

Best Places to Shop for Canoes Near Pittsburgh, PA?

I paddle a tandem from the bow seat and it works great for me. I am kind of an unorthodox Cretan and would receive no style points while paddling. That said when solo tripping (lakes) I adjust trim with gear. I have to do that anyway to compensate for wind direction. With a solo seat in the...

    Anyone Named their boat(s)

Funny that I never considered naming my canoes, as I name my vehicles. My last motorcycle was Bucky The Thunder Horse, may he rest in peace. Unfortunately I was riding him when he went to the last round up. I guess my Nova Crafts already came with names, Bob and Pal.

How many pairs of footwear: in canoe vs. on portage vs. in camp?

My tripping has been shoulder seasons. On a trip I wear Chota Mukluks in canoe and on portage trails. In camp I wear moccasins. Summer day trips I wear Chaco sandals.

Canoeing, Tripping, Camping with Heart Problems

Back to the topic. For those with a heart condition wondering if they should still venture out, be pro-active. Don't just go and hope for the best. If your Dr approves, start a rigorous exercise program near home where you have medical care near by if you need it. If you are concerned about...

Canoeing, Tripping, Camping with Heart Problems

I love it. Thanks for a good laugh. Being I'm one of those Knuckle Dragers from a "fly over state", I'm thinking they will be long on promise and short on delivery. That will be fine with me as I time traveled back to the seventy's where I'm more comfortable.

Canoeing, Tripping, Camping with Heart Problems

Other than a pacemaker and occasional afib, my heart is in pretty good shape. In fact it will keep beating for a while after I die. I didn't even know about the afib. My pacemaker data logs and ratted me out to the heart Dr. I will say that after you are diagnosed with any kind of heart issue...
