Help IDing my new (to me) Great Canadian Canoe

I understand the degradation. The material along gunwales was very weak and tore easily. I saved a swatch for reference.

    Any upper extremity amputees here?

Greetings again. I am missing my left hand at the wrist and and trying to figure out how best to paddle a canoe, either solo or from the rear. My only experience was as the front paddler so my partner did the lions share of work. Kind of putting the cart before the horse as I have to restore...

    Can i edit my posts?

Greetings all: Its been a very long time since i last participated in online forums so i am a bit rusty on certain aspects. Can i edit a post? I inadvertently double quoted someone, which really clogs up the post. I prefer to truncate any quotes for readability. I know some forums have a time...

    Where to start?

Okay, that makes sense. I had a feeling that there may be some type of intrinsic form that would be sacrificed if i just i started removing pieces willy nilly. I worried about after i pulled off the skin but it was so moist underneath i felt i had to get it Ofc to start the drying process.

    Where to start?

Thanks. The book’s on order. I see he has a blog too that i haven't quite figured out how to access yet. All i’ve found on it was how to built stands. My fear is it will become a “Ship of Theseus,” but i see lots of opportunity for learning.

    Where to start?

Okay, so the skin is off and all the rot is exposed. Do you start at the gunals and work your way in or start at the center line and work your way our?

I am really surprised that no one has mentioned the vinyl skin. I always assumed that these “strip” canoes went straight from canvas to fiberglass.

Help IDing my new (to me) Great Canadian Canoe

Hello all. I picked up this Great Canadian last week and now am trying to make sense of what i have. The skin is vinyl, several planks have knot holes and i cant decipher the HIN. Any help will be most appreciated.

    Is the HIN sensitive information

Is it safe to post the HIN? I see on many forms people blur out serial numbers. I’ve never really understood why.

    Greetings from the UP

Thanks i’m sensing that already! my last canoe outing was a week on Lake George in Oct 92 i believe. Was nothing like id ever experienced. The sight and sounds were hypnotic. Only interrupted by an occasional motorboat zooming past, and they saw none of what we experienced.

    Greetings from the UP

Hello all: Just acquired an old great canadian Canoe. I believe the date is 1979 and came in search of knowledge. Retired and living in michigans up for 30 years. Have wondered many trails but i guess its about time i start enjoying the water too.
