    Trippers are Preppers too.

Lance: All I got is my trusty Kitchen Aid meat grinder and a Lem sausage stuffer. I love that Hobart machine you got. I might have to start saving my lose change for one of those. :) Mike: I couldn't agree more. I wish news would go back to the time when the words "news" and "show" meant two...

The Compleat Guide to Modern Bear Deterrence

Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences. I always associated the sneaky from behind move from a cat but less so from a bear.

The Compleat Guide to Modern Bear Deterrence

At ppine: What is your advice for "Learn their ways, and learn to live with them"? I used to live in the Sierra Foothills, and we had the occasional black bear that was pretty much after our trash can. We kept a lock-ring on our can, so the bear would usually lumber off and raid other neighbor's...

Help me choose my last Canadian river trip

Kevin Callan posted this on FB. "Ontario's Best River Canoe Routes". Looks like there is a new book out as well (or will be) about the top 60 canoe routes in ON. Perhaps some good ideas here. I have some of Kevin's books and they are great...

To Lance, interesting Hobart machine. Looks like some type of combo? Can you post some details?

    Hello from Saskatchewan

Welcome! There are quite a few canoe builders on the site, and we all enjoy photos of self-built projects. Care to share some photos and perhaps some of your favorite places to paddle?

Ray Goodwin Solo Sailing Rig Video

All that rope handling, managing waves + a dog that might, at any moment, shift his weight around, is probably a bit unnerving. I know it would be for me. He looks very busy managing it all between 9:25 and about 10:00. Add that he is at some loch with frigid water, and his point of having a...

Ever been forced to buy a canoe?

Thank you, Gampus. I kind of want to keep my yoke, but I can see the virtues of the third seat. I will try to paddle from the stern seat with a weight in the bow next. Can't wait to be back on the water :). Good question, Mike. I really haven't paid much attention to it. My canoe storage is a...

Ever been forced to buy a canoe?

Dealer said the thwarts are supposed to curve up, so yours are upside down. Ha! ;) The kneeling thwart is OK for an hour or two, but it is not the most comfortable I have to admit. It would be better if it was twice the standard width (which seams to be just a regular thwart width). Looks like...

    Decked Kruger Seawind style build

Congratulations! She's a beauty. I don't have the patience for it, but I am glad some of the folks here do, so I get to see some really great self built canoes. Cheers!

Ever been forced to buy a canoe?

My wife and I took the Polaris out yesterday for the maiden voyage. Great fun and the boat is more stable than I anticipated, given its width. We found both, initial and secondary stability quite comfortable. Tripping speed is also quite fast compared to my Spirit II. Not a 100% fair comparison...

Ever been forced to buy a canoe?

Me neither...except a few month ago my wife and I went for a paddle, and afterward she watched me lift our canoe on my shoulders and then the car. On the way home, my love declared I should take better care of my back and buy a lighter canoe. She insisted, even after I told her what it would...

Tip out spurs quest for a new chair

I love the quality of Kermit Chair. The design is great and they are made in the US...and I am still saving up for them. A few years ago we bought 4 of the Moon Lence for around $120 (for all 4 of them). I was skeptical as to quality, but I have to say that after many camping and canoeing...
