    NFTC Canoe Outfitters?

I am tentatively planning a 5-day trip along the NFTC next spring (or fall). I am not too set on any particular stretch(es) of the NFTC, but I prefer wilderness over more urban sections. Since I live on the west coast, I am looking to rent all the gear for the trip. Can anyone here recommend a...

Swift Keewaydin 16 -- Opinions, Experience?

Paddled a Keewaydin 16 for a few hours before deciding to use the 16' Swift Prospector for a 4-day Algonquin trip. I liked the higher freeboard on the prospector, but I did like how fast the Kee was compared to the Prospector. For the most part, I second what Bob said. I own a Northstar Polaris...

    NorthStar Canoes

Sorry. I just paddled the 17' version. I liked it a lot. A good Prospector type all-rounder. I wanted something lighter and didn't need the pack capability and got a Polaris. I don't think you can go wrong with any Northstar canoe ;)

    Mad River Freedom on CL

Thank you, Gumpus! Great seat detail, and good to know I didn't pay too much . I took it fishing last Saturday at a local reservoir. The wind can be pretty meaningful there, but the weather forecast called for 3-5mph only. Liars! White caps and 15mph at 7:00AM when I arrived. I launched...

Thanks, Gumpus! I'll save the Traveler catalog page. Attache are a few pics of the seat slide and one photo of a piece of cedar (ran out of Ash) I patched in where the gunwale was missing. I made the slider work again, and I added spacers (dish washer wheels) to elevate the back of the seat, as...

I remember when MRC had old catalogs available in PDF. I agree. Too bad they took them off their website. Especially also because they had so many interesting canoe models, like you said. Especially the Traveler ;). In the meantime, MRC got back to me via fb and confirmed that what I have got...

Thanks, Mike. Can't wait to spend more time on the water with it. Do you have a link to a late 80' MRC catalog that shows the Traveler?

Mike, There is no badging or model imprinted anywhere on the hull. Your idea that it may be a "Screamer" was close. Based on the (below) thread it seams that a "Traveler" is the more likely model though. The measurements and age seem right and the weight of about 47 pounds (weighed mine) seems...

    New addition

Congrats on your W/C canoe! W/C boat is on my bucket list. Need to create some space first...and switch from collecting pennies to maybe quarters

Thanks Gumpus! Initial run went well. It has a slight V bottom (more pronounced toward the bow and stern), so healing it even a little has it run on the flat on one side of the V or the other. With 45(ish) pounds it is heavier than I hoped, especially considering the possibility of the "K"evlar...

Mine now! :) Still a mystery as to what model it actually is. It is 16' long, 28" wide and pretty much a flat water tripper. I tried it out already. Tomorrow I'll dig into the gunwales and the seat that doesn't move as it should and so on... Cheers for now.

Anyone here know any details other than what the CL add states? Not sure I believe that it is Kevlar. Looks like Royalex to me. If it is Kevlar I'll buy it for sure :) Your input is appreciated!

    Pack Capacity

I get it. Old(ish) thread, but I re-read it again today, and I wonder what your fine folks thoughts on pack material/style are and why. I seem to read that more of you prefer (or use) non water proof packs and stuff a variety of dry-bags inside. Others use large dry-packs (Eureka, MEC) to start...

History of the De Havilland Beaver

How fun. I am usually not into airplanes, but I can see the appeal of the Beaver and why she has maintained such a following. Who knows, perhaps I'll be traveling in one getting to my next canoe adventure ;). Thank you for posting the link! Nice photos too!
