Rebuild of a Mad River Traveler

I picked up a Traveler earlier this year, and I am happy to look at or take photos of, or take measurements of or...etc. Whatever might help you.

What are your favorite paddle gloves

Good stuff, Guys and than you for chipping in your experiences. Always appreciated! Chip, I like the leather hardware store idea! I think leather holds the answer for what I am looking for. I ordered the Upsurge gloves and will report my findings.

What are your favorite paddle gloves

I like that idea! No issues with rotating paddle shaft? I do have a pair of neoprene gloves. Warm and waterproof but too grippy for my taste. I paddle 95% flat water and use J or other corrective strokes.

Nuway stove experiment in a snowtrekker

Good practical input, Memaquay. This stove has been on my radar for a while. Living in California, the need for a fancy stove or hot tenting, can be rightfully questioned. Moreover, the places I'd consider taking it to are impossible to get to during the winter. BUT, it would still be a really...

Camping in the Old Style by David Wescott

Completely agree with you, Robin. I just spent the weekend canoeing and fishing one of my favorite lakes. My camp sports some light weight stuff, but I do light my fires with a fire striker, and I love the quality and comfort of my (poles and pegs included) canvas tent, so I schlepp it along...

Camping in the Old Style by David Wescott

As Glenn stated, the Inuit flotation devices were used to keep harpooned critters from diving. I don't think they considered PDFs. I also read that most all of the Inuit were unable to swim. Not that surprising on second thought. Where and when would they have practiced? But then again, if the...

    Unique paddle

You wrote "received". Did you order it from some place? Cool paddle. Looks old. No idea on the wood but would be interested in the weight. I'd also be interested in hearing how it handles.

    NFTC Canoe Outfitters?

You guys are amazing. I can imagine some mission impossible stuff, and somehow some one here will know how, when, or where I can find what I thought did not exist. That means one of two things. Either you guys are truly experienced canoe trippers, or my imagination is not that great. I bet it is...

    NFTC Canoe Outfitters?

Yup. Good assumptions, Yellowcanoe. I'll be flying in and was thinking Albany or Syracuse as a starting point. A friend lives near Philadelphia, so flying into Philly and driving from there might be an option. Probably second choice though. Interesting (and very helpful) observation about dirt...
