    I used to tie the mittens together with a cord like my mother used to do, but the dangle length never was right, so i now clip them to my sleeves.

    Thin gloves or fingerless thicker ones under mittens that are easy to slip off to do stuff. i fasten the mittens to my coat sleves so i dont have to keep track of them when using the gloves.

    yep Robin, Sunforger is great stuff. I have primitive camped in several sunforger panther primitives tents dozens and dozens of times over the years in all seasons. never a leak. great stuff. My oldest one has roof panels so thin you can practically see through.

    I was an occasional canoe tripper till 14 years ago when i survived bladder cancer. While in treatment i vowed to canoe trip more. Since then I trip locally or in the adks at least 4 trips a year and grateful to be blessed with another year.. last summer included. have a blessed newyear,Turtle

    Mike, i agree starbucks is the best instant coffee, but not nearly as good as concentrate

    Cold, cold, cold

    I usually wear successively larger fleece shirts-up to 4 with a parka shell outside. easy to take one or more off as you overheat when exercising. i try NEVER to get overheated and perspire a lot wetting the insulation. A single thick heavy parks is hard to regulate.

    I found liquid coffee in little plastic pods-just enough for 1 cup. Super lite and takes little space.

    I use liquid coffee concentrate. just put a little in hot water and your done. no grounds or gadgets. way better then instant, and some say they can't tell it from brewed coffee. many restaurants and such use it in their coffee machines.

    There are several folding frypans made for the reinacting comunity-jas townsend and track of the wolf has them. Sportsmans Guide is my go to surplus source. some deals come and go quick, but i have gotton some great deals and unique stuff there. Merry Christmas, Turtle

    It's wool season

    I have a surplus cotton anorak that i use for bad weather snowshoeing. I agree with yellow--the best outer layer. wind proof and breathable. after a long strenuous shoe it sometimes is frozen almost solid, but I'm dry underneath.

    I have a European military surplus wool zip jacket made of "wool fleece". It looks like thick poly fleece but it's wool. A great performing jacket and i have never found wool fleece anywhere else. Any body know a source as I would love to have a vest or parka made of it. thanks, Merry Christmas...

    Military surplus wool clothing is dirt cheep. It's scratchy, but if you wear a poly base layer it's fine. It performs as well or better than the fancy stuff. I also believe it keeps you warmer when wet than the soft kind. Turtle

    I once poled up a local creek from one bridge to the next one upstream. there was a fisherman at the upstream bridge who asked me while pointing downstream " you do know the creek runs that way, don't you"

    External pitch and single wall tents

    I had a single wall tent. For one overnight crawling in a bedtime and out in am it worked fine. spending a rainy day in it not so much. Lots of condensation warring sleep bag and me.

    Solo Stove -- All Camping Stoves Buy One Get One Free

    I have an old steel folding "sheepherders stove" that looks like it. A lighter version would be nice, and I don't know how much longer it will last. One thing Ii like about it is that mine will take 18" wood like they have at winter camps I go to.
