Fair enough Mike, the oil/turps mix restores the dried out brittle wood. May not be necessary in all cases. And in my experience with Shellac is that you can re-coat within a couple of hours. So you're maybe looking at 4 day process in total. (2 coats shellac and 3 coats varnish). Bruce
