Video, of a guy tipping a canoe over in the middle of a Minnesota Lake

You can see the battery sitting on the floor, right behind the front seat. So at least it wasn’t behind him.

Wow. And then to advertise it to the world by posting videos 🤣. I’m no paddling genius, but this guy makes me look like one. Definitely bent shaft paddles - 2 of them, in fact.

    Now I’m in Deep

This reminds me of last summer, when I was scrambling to get off the river before the next torrential downpour hit. At the boat launch, while I was gathering my stuff for when hubby showed up with the truck, two girls from one of the liveries showed up to pick up some rental kayaks that were...

Stay safe in this big storm ...

That super wet snow is definitely easier to move after a day or two. It kinda drains out. When we get that heavy wet snowblower-chute-clogging stuff we wait, if we can. It can make a world of difference.

    Now I’m in Deep

As the wife in my particular household, I am uniquely qualified to advise you. I would suggest you break the news to her with a second Blacklite Northstar solo canoe. Its the only fair and equitable method. You‘re welcome! 😃

The best solo canoe may be a touring kayak.

I don’t find this discussion even slightly contentious- I was just amused at what passes for contention around here. All the rest of the internet is a cage fight in comparison! This is the kindest, most polite place around. And it makes perfect sense to mostly keep it about canoes. Thank you...

The best solo canoe may be a touring kayak.

My favorite aspect of this thread is the idea that it’s contentious 🤣. Have any of you ever been on any other forums? You guys are the best - kind and respectful at all times! My vote, currently, is for the canoe. I have 3 kayaks (12’, 14‘-6”, and 17’-7”) and now have 3 solo canoes (15’-4”...

The Effects of Keeping and Removing Dams

I’ve recently been reading comments on a Facebook page committed to keeping the dams on the AuSable, in lower Michigan. Homeowners and community members who are worried about their homes, wells, livelihoods, etc. It‘s a group of worried, upset people, for good reason. I’m trying to get a...

    Snow, where you are?

We had maybe 4-5” Sunday night. Calumet, Michigan. We were supposed to get an actual storm on Monday night, but that was a complete bust. I have been able to go out on my rock skis at the local trails (Swedetown!) for the last four days, and put some new gouges in them 😀. But I think that’s...

The Effects of Keeping and Removing Dams

https://www.mlive.com/public-interest/2023/09/consumers-energy-to-discuss-the-future-of-its-13-hydropower-dams-in-community-talks.html While I love the idea of the AuSable River going back to its natural state, and I really want that to happen, I do also feel for those who live and make their...

Welcome! From someplace maybe more in the area of the Scalp of Michigan 😜

Show us pictures of your canoe vehicle with boat(s)

Um. Yes. (hangs head in shame) 😒 Hubby drove down to the Wenonah clearance sale a couple weeks ago, looking for a Prism. I had him check on Voyagers after he found the Prism, and this one was also 52% off. So he came home with 2 boats and 2 carbon paddles. And now it STOPS. Really. I’m serious...

    Ballast Placement

Umm….Bogan doesn’t look big enough for the weight difference to be a real issue, but then…….I suppose……maybe……..

    Ballast Placement

“Special relativity and quantum tunneling”🤣. You are (were??) certainly out of my league. NEVER eliminate the dog! Especially when he’s as cute as Bogan!

    Ballast Placement

First off, I am absolutely no expert on boat ballast. However, I do know that 50 lbs (6 gallons of water) placed 4 feet from a fixed point creates a moment of 200 ft-lbs. If you shorten the lever arm to 2 feet (for example), you would need 100 lbs (12 gallons of water) to create the same...

Fibbing To Your Spouse About Canoe Stuff

This conversation reminds me of the past! My first job after college (1989) was at a paper mill in a tiny town in the Wisconsin north woods. Loved the area! But the conversations were enlightening for a 24 year old girl raised on a farm by the most scrupulously honest and careful people you ever...

Fibbing To Your Spouse About Canoe Stuff

It’s possible there are some things she’s better off not knowing about, after it’s too late. Although, I tend to use the opportunity to scold and nag, in the hope of affecting his future choices. Does it work? 🤷‍♀️
