which foldable solar panel for canoeing and canoe camping

I just got the Sunjack 25 for Christmas- haven’t even had a chance to play with it yet. Wanted to charge a power bank today, but the weather is about as dreary and disgusting as possible today, so I’m not even going to try.

which foldable solar panel for canoeing and canoe camping

I’d like to pile on with another question! Looking online, the BigBlue 28 certainly looks like the best option, except for IP rating. It’s only an IPX4 (vertical spray up to 60°), while Sunjack is IP67 (6 for being dust tight, and 7 for water immersion). So, if I might go for a swim with all my...

    Where Are All The Canoes?

I think all the race canoes are in the Grayling/Mio/Oscoda Michigan area right now. As a friend used to say, “you can’t swing a cat without hitting…..” a tandem race canoe. Other canoes too, but every time we go anywhere we see a few on cars. The race is in a month! There may be more canoes than...

    Citizen Race Canoe Suggestions?

Yeah. I keep reminding myself that this is temporary, and a lot of people have infinitely worse things going on. I’m really tired of it, but whatcha gonna do? That being said, by 10 am Thursday I will either be doing a happy dance, or my head will be exploding.

    Citizen Race Canoe Suggestions?

Alas - it isn’t to be, this year. 😢. I broke my wrist on March 27th. After 5 weeks, they decided it clearly wasn’t healing right, so at 6 weeks I had surgery, and they installed a plate and some screws. Thursday (Day 85) the cast might come off, depending on the X-rays. Fingers crossed! Just on...

    Concrete Canoe Photo

I went to Michigan Tech, back in the dark ages. It was a Civil Engineering department thing - MTU entered every year, and I think they still do. I never saw it (I was an ME).

    Web Seat Comfort

If you want to use the Northstar seat, maybe you could mount two side rails to it, and use the existing mounting locations in the boat? That way you aren’t modifying the seat itself, just the two strips you add (to get the hole position and angle right). It would raise you up a bit, though...

Obvious safety violation: Say something or keep quiet?

And she probably wonders why everything happens her, or at least why she had such a terrible day.

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

The old classic “slipped on the ice” routine. We’d gotten a bunch of snow for a couple days, then it got up in the 40s the next day, then froze solid that night. That was the day I decided to go into town and run some errands. Hit a patch of practically invisible ice right outside the window of...

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

Well, my plans are all off. ALL off. No eclipse travel. No paddling. No skiing. No biking. No nothin’. Broke my wrist last week. 😭 Waiting to see whether I will need surgery, because it moved a little while splinted. I see the doctor again Tuesday, and hope to find out then whether I’ll just...

Any plans for the April 8, 2024 solar eclipse?

We’re going to Southern Indiana - Starve Hollow State Park. We have a little squaredrop camper, sort of a hard-sided tent on wheels. We may need to drive a little way from there to get to a 100% viewing area. Should be fun! Taking several days to hike and explore.

    Sanborn Paddle Quality

It is certainly prettier than a BB. My Java is pretty, but in a cookie-cutter, mass-production, sold in every paddling shop and big box store kind of way. I picture them being spit out of a big machine.

    Sanborn Paddle Quality

Not exactly sandpaper - more like the texture after the I’ve put the first coat of polyurethane on a piece of trim in my house, before the steel wool and final coat. Not smooth but not scratchy like sandpaper. More like raised grain, but this is where the wood is covered. So maybe tiny...

    Sanborn Paddle Quality

I say “gritty” for lack of a better word. It’s not exactly that. On that side it doesn’t feel like it’s the weave of the fabric, though. More like if you sanded it and then put another coat of finish on without thoroughly removing the dust/debris? Or maybe it’s tiny fibers from the fabric? Like...

    Sanborn Paddle Quality

Yes - that’s basically the one (there are two versions, but they look the same). Hard to get photos that show it well. On the wood face, it’s less visible unless the light is just right. Definitely feels like the surface is sort of gritty or something. Some of the other paddles looked...

    Sanborn Paddle Quality

Just wondering if anyone has noticed a decline in Sanborn’s attention to detail. I just bought a Nessmuk cedar paddle at Canoecopia. I’ve been wanting one, and the price was right. However, I am not impressed with the quality of the finish on it - and I did ransack through the ones of the...

    Canoe Cradle Stand

I saw the Suspendz ones at Canoecopia. They look good, but kinda pricey for what they are.
