Question about Sanding Too Much on One Side of Stern

My interpretation of the comment to “work on the J stroke” is that it meant the small diversion from stem symmetry wouldn’t make any difference in hull performance….don’t want to speak for Gamma1214 but I took it that way, hence my agreement with the comment. No snarkyness intended.

Question about Sanding Too Much on One Side of Stern

Agree with Gamma1214…..BUT I have never built a canoe so I ask this out of pure curiosity…could some sort of filler be applied then reshaped? Seems like such a small amount…

Changed Mind About Selling Chestnut Chum

Think you will really enjoy the Peregrine…very comfortable boat. Light and strong. Curtis/Hemlock canoes have been a blessing to the sport. Congrats.

Why are stern seats closer than bow seats to the ends of a tandem canoe?

It’s helpful to place a small ball on the floor.

Why are stern seats closer than bow seats to the ends of a tandem canoe?

I weigh twice what my wife weighs and I move the stern seat forward by one seat depth (rear cross rail of new seat goes in the holes of the original seat front rail). Con: of course this means buying a new seat. Pro: I can usually fit in a wider seat for more comfort.

    Adirondack leantos

Great collection of photos! Stayed in one in WVa when my wife and I hiked in with another couple. That wife had never camped out. Woke up to 8” of snow and hiked back out. We each were driving Toyota Land Cruisers and his got stuck getting out of the parking lot (not easy to do as those things...

    $$$$$

Totaled up the canoe count to around 25-30 that have passed through my hands over the years (not to mention TONS of nice paddles, outfitting, etc) at a total cost of ???. Have realized that had I invested all that money over all those years I would have a lot more money than I do….…..not a...

that's me - Michael from Germany

Welcome! Your English is just fine. Enjoy your new passion…. I got serious about canoeing when I realized that it would be easier to put my gear in a canoe and go downhill rather than carry it on my back and go uphill. Lazy to the core I guess…. Look forward to some reports and pics from Germany!

Mad River ME for Whitewater Tripping?

Owned one many moons ago….It’s a banana…maneuvers great but you better have a good efficient traveling/correction stroke for the flats if they are long. Never paddled class 4/5 but assume you will have float bags as it could take on some water there unless you take the perfect line. Others will...

Learn Canoe Technique from the Paddlers of 1930

Sounds like gunnel pumping? Learned as a kid in an old aluminum hull. Hurt like heck if you fell IN the boat. Pretty certain those stunts are past me now😉

Our Member Barry Rains ("Waterdog") Has Passed, Obituary

In an age where the written word is in a sad decline I find it comforting that you can feel as though you know someone through their writings based on the simplicity of similar affinities. Never met Barry but nontheless I feel the loss. Cheers Barry we’ll miss you.
