Where Does the Colorado River Start and End

National Geographic's Pete McBride has a few short films about the Colorado River. Chasing Water is a source-to-sea effort if I remember right, then there's two about the Grand Canyon (Martin's Boat and Into the Canyon), and one, maybe the most compelling, about the river actually making it to...

Inukshuks, Cairns or Rock Piles: What to Do or Not Do?

I don't see many cairns except the ones above tree line in the Whites where they are very helpful while trying to find your way down in iffy weather. They are literally life savers. They are large and unkempt, and obviously trail cairns. Were I to see small "ego cairns" (I just made that up)...

Poll: What Site Color Theme Do You Use Most Often?

I thought I was in default, but it turns out I'm in Mocha so I just changed my response in the poll. I also might start messing around with this now and again. I'd forgotten changing color themes was an option.

    Canoeing Regrets

I went one year to Keewaydin on Temagami and at 12 was in the youngest section. It was a lot to ask at that age, but I regret not returning the following year(s). At least it planted the canoe bug in me, though it took a while to gestate. And I still think a canoe should be a certain shade of...

    Anyone using Astral PFDs?

Astral E Ronny for me. Comfy even on hot days, no friction when paddling, great pockets. Plus it's florescent orange. Would certainly buy again.

    What are you reading?

I posted about those earlier in the thread. Definitely interesting to read back-to-back. https://www.canoetripping.net/threads/what-are-you-reading.106/post-38749

I had a Spirit II in royalex. You will be very happy with that boat I think. Definitely a step up from the Disco.

    Breaking up Freeze-dried Packages

I rehydrate in a covered insulated pot or mug. Not sure I'd buy foil bags just for that. Single use and all. The ziploc bags I split the meals into get reused. At least a few times.

    Breaking up Freeze-dried Packages

This is how I've done it. Easier to make an even split that way.

    north east storms

Major flooding in some parts of central VT. Montpelier is apparently under water. Lots of roads out all over the state. Some in NH as well, but not as bad.

New Rhode Island Law Makes Wearing PFD Mandatory for All

True story. Was out with friends yesterday for an afternoon jaunt around the lake in a power boat, and as we near the end of our circuit I see a paddleboarder next to what looks like just the bow of a canoe sticking up out of the water, and two guys, a father and adult son, in pfds swimming...

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

Mine has a nylon canopy, not mesh, and the entry has two layers, the door is mostly mesh but it also functions as a window and can be completely closed. The window on the back can also be completely closed. I do think it meets the OPs criteria.

    Wildfires in Canada!

Here in the Upper Connecticut River Valley we were under an air quality index watch yesterday, but it was mostly confined to western Vermont west of the Green Mountains. Hasn't been all that noticeable, to me, here on the river. And has been lifted today.

    Happy National………Day

Today is the anniversary of D-Day. I'm sure we all know that, but I always think it is worth acknowledging. And tomorrow would have been my father's 97th birthday. For what it's worth. His 18th birthday was the day after D-Day and the day he enlisted in the USMC.

Hit by a Car on Bike

Sorry to hear, but glad it wasn't worse. Could easily have been. Many close calls for me over the years, but so far so good. And get the bike checked by a shop. If your wheels are that trashed, I bet the frameset is too. And get a new helmet.
