    Dagger Dimension

Thanks, Mike. I do know the vitals on the boat (along with the prose blather). The boat is bare, so lots of options for how to outfit it. I'm thinking it's a good deal for us, but having never paddled one... Ret

    Dagger Dimension

Hi, All. I'm considering purchasing a Royalex Dagger Dimension in really great shape, and I was hoping you might help me decide if I should pull the trigger. I know next to nothing about this boat. I'm a former ww kayaker (some 20 years ago) and a current canoe tripper comfortable with swift...

Last Trip of the Season in Maine

The magic of the movies! ;-) Thanks for watching. I'm pretty excited to get back in there in the spring with more water. The history of that area is so interesting to me.

Last Trip of the Season in Maine

Here's a short film about what will probably be my last canoe trip of the year (besides day trips) here in Maine. It was a three-day, two-night trip to an area south of Katahdin that was new to me. The trip didn't go quite as planned due to extremely low water, but it was a fantastic outing...

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Thanks, Mike McCrea ! I agree that the only way to know is to try.

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Thanks! Good advice all around. I thought it might be helpful to provide some more detail that may give some insight into my decision matrix. I come from an "ounces equal pounds and pounds equal pain" mindset from years of high altitude, alpine style mountaineering. This bias certainly clouds...

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Thanks, Alan. The specifics really help. I do think on the whole that a lightweight (not even ultralight) tent set-up is going to be a lighter option than a lightweight hammock set-up for solo trips. When it comes to a two-person trip, I don't think hammocks can compete in the weight category...

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Thanks again for your thoughtful input. Rest assured, I am comparing apples to apples, and the tent option seems to come out lighter still. The Superior Hammock (unbundled but with the elite option) does not include bug shield, suspension or fly, although it does include insulation and does...

    Voltaic Solar Systems

Hey, Guys. I'm contemplating switching from my Goal Zero solar system to a Voltaic solar system. Does anyone have any experience with the latter? They pretty slick for wet conditions! Thanks in advance.

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Oh. I see it. It's the Superior Hammock with the Elite Superior Hammock Upgrade, right? That looks nice. If I'm reading it correctly, that brings the base Superior down from 34 oz to 24 oz by switching 900FP with a 30F rating. However, there is no insect shield, suspension system or fly included...

Moose River Bow Trip (Backwards), Maine, September 2020

Thanks for the great trip report. I somehow missed it. This is one trip that is on the shortlist during every trip planning session, and yes we/I have never done it. 2021!

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

Thanks! I certainly see some of the advantages to a hammock, Turtle2 , but in this thread I'm specifically interested in weight. The Clark looks cool, but it is pushing 3 lbs, right? I love the over-the-water set-up. Do you have a picture? So cool!

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

I've been there! Probably the same site. :-) Maybe it's just nomenclature, but my experience is that there are a bunch of light tents (~2 lbs mark) that are three-season tents. It's a good point, however, about hammocks needing trees that may well be in the snow!

    "Light" Three-Season Hammock?

I'm with you all the way to "I could get a lighter tarp and hammock but I could also get a lighter tent." That's really my question. What lighter comparable hammock system could you get that is as light as an ultralight tent appropriate for shoulder season in Maine? I want to be clear that I'm...
