    Needs a little TLC

Glenn, that is not the first time I have woven webbing with the hull colour into the seats, mind you, on Red's Trembly the black/red combo did seem kind of odd to me. Mike, after totalling costs on a few wood/canvas restorations and deducting from selling price to see my labour was worth about...

    Needs a little TLC

This little beauty is almost done. I went through many 60 grit discs to open up all the nasties on the hull to allow a resin coat to fill as much as possible. All old glass patches were removed, larger cracks along the keel filled with short strand fibreglas filler with wood dowels backing where...

Crown Land Camping in Ontario suspended again.

Concentrations of population seems to be the super spreader and those who feel it is ok to travel to the states are potentially the main cause. I overheard a couple in the grocery store yesterday telling how they got back into the country to avoid the quarantine by flying to a border city and...

    Broke Rod

All trips involve fishing, rods and tackle go everywhere regardless of portage length or quantity. We use two piece inexpensive Cabela's fibreglas rods which are fully rigged then broken down and kept in a fabric rod case. Easy for portaging to just carry the case, when you want to fish, pull...

The Advantages of Screwing on Gunnels !

Did your friend drill the rails to thread the cord? How big were the frame rails? We have only used Ash once, difficult to get and too heavy although easy to use and bend. We have used Douglas Fir a few times, easy to get and work with and Honduras Mahogany once, expensive but pretty. I used...

3.29.21 Edit: Storage usage issues resolved

Many of my older posts about boat building no longer have photos due to the mess with photobucket so the threads could be deleted to free up space. Karin

Wabakimi 15 day solo trip video

We always found the more remote we got the better the pickerel fishing got as well. The fishing was as important as the location and trip. We however were forced to eat pike on occasion as we found a set of lakes in WCPP that did not have any pickerel. I did have the pleasure of going through...

    Poll: Gunwale gluer or screwer?

I guess I am half of each as on my last stripper build the inners were epoxied in and the outers screwed. Inners won't take much abuse short of a wrap but outers do so I will stick to screwing those. However, I will still not use staples, I had to on that last stripper and hate seeing them left...

    Poll: Gunwale gluer or screwer?

Good thing those gray gunwales aren't glued on, you would never get them off. Them things look to be 20 years old.

Old But Still Beautiful Camera Stuff

All my old Canon Film stuff is in the same boat. Tried to sell it but nobody really interested. Canon 100-300 zoom I was offered $5. I took a pass.

    No Snow, @#$%^&*!

They had predicted we would get more snow than "normal" but so far it has not showed up, in fact it rained on Wednesday, then froze. 6 times this Winter having to commute to work on ice due to how unseasonably warm it has been. It is a balmy -13C at the moment which would be "normal" day time...

    Nominations for Sticky Topics

Yes, Ms would be correct, thank you. One issue with my build thread as well is the failing of Photobucket removed the bulk of photos and two hard drive failures makes them gone forever. Such is ilfe. Next build I will have all my photos backed up in 3 places.

    Nominations for Sticky Topics

Along the line of Jim's Nokomis builds, what about Alan due the fact he designs his own hulls, builds it in wood and composites and experiments with carbon gunwales and other such things, then goes out and use the boats to the extreme? Of course there is also that I build cedar strip canoes but...
