I use something similar to what Ralph uses but for Android. the app is named Canada Maps. It uses the Canadian Topographic System. Comes in 2 versions. I use the free version for hiking in my area. The Pro Version permits downloading maps for offline use from wifi and costs $37.99 CND. G.

    Wildfires in Canada!

Just heard tonight that the town of Chibougamou in the Lac Mistassini area is being evacuated. In Quebec canoe country things are pretty bad. Anyone coming our way our a trip should check with local authorities before leaving. Gerald

What will be the effect of electric vehicles on canoe tripping?

Upgraded my Outback in 2022 from an 2014 Outback. Would have made an EV choice had it not being for the canoe trips. I'm sure eventually the coming technologies plus the availability of more recharging sources will permit long hauls to the canoe routes but for the moment I sadly admit I'm...

Good winter activity Black Fly especially if breaking new snow. Using poles as you do is great for keeping those upper body muscles toned as well. Great photo by the way. G.

    Snow? — Where You Are

This photo was taken after the first snow here this winter. . We got about 40 inches. Finally, found the Subie after the driveway was cleared. A week later it was all gone. We got snow since then but more and more winter rain seems to be in our future. Gerald
