    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

Yes. But I understand it to be a stronger underlying material. And it is half the price that my Min3 was. I guess all the videos of them abusing Nova Craft canoes peaked my interest. However, I still lean towards something made of T-Formex.

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

Thanks @Clint My Min3 is made from their Tuf-weave with gel coat that I bought new. I don't want to have to be repairing the gel-coat. I love it on the deep/wide east Texas rivers like the Neches or Sabine. But I don't want to tear up a boat that I spent that much money on. I took my...

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

So I have another option. It turns out I can get a Nova Craft Haida 17 TuffStuff delivered to Austin Kayak down here in Houston. https://www.the-house.com/ack02118zz-nova-craft-canoe-canoes Not sure that it would work out better than a Spirit II, but it is lighter.

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

That's good advise. I need to wait until I get a bonus in the spring anyway. I'm not opposed to finding a good used boat as well, but they are hard to come by now in here. The Wenonah dealer takes about 6 months to get one if I order it.

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

So I just realized that REI carries the Esquif Prospector 17 in T-formex. https://www.rei.com/product/206859/esquif-prospecteur-17-canoe It is about the same price as the Spirit II. The nice thing is they will ship it to my local REI for free. Is there any difference between the Esquif and...

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

Did you talk to my wife? Maybe you got me on the excuse to get another boat. I agree with all that has been said here. The thing is, most of the rivers I will be doing will have a good bit of flat water with a few small rapids along the way. Wind is also often an issue. So, I've kind of...

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

I appreciate all the feedback. My thought on the poly verses T-Formex was that the poly is much softer and would wear through much faster. I took it on the upper Brazos with a buddy who was in a Royalex canoe. At one point we stopped and he says, "Hey you left something behind." I look back...

    Spirit II vs. Prospector 17

I am wanting to get a T-Formex canoe and am trying to decide between a Spirit II or a Prospector 17. The Spirit II is 73lbs, the Prospector is 76lbs. However the Spirit II is $2299, the Prospector is >$3000. Is the Prospector that much better? I want it for the shallow water rocky rivers we have...

@Clint I talk about two different grills and a reflector oven. When I did the upper Brazos I only took the charcoal grill I mention in the video. We did that trip for my son's 18th birthday and he wanted steak for dinner. So I grilled some stakes on it and made a potato dish that is...

Are you talking about the stretch below Possum Kingdom? I've done that section of almost 40 miles. It's beautiful. I have campsite locations if that is where you are going. I've also done the lower Brazos near Houston because I live near it, but I did not camp. I was just scoping it out...

    Happy Independence Day!

That picture was taken back in March when I took a group of about 30 (dads & sons) down the Neches River in East Texas. Someone set that flag up. I didn't think much about it at the time, but remembered it as we were getting ready to head to a Freedom Day party yesterday. It got down to about...

Attempting to make a couple of paddles

Very cool! I was looking into making a paddle a couple years ago. I bought a cedar board & was going to carve it out of a single peace after watching some videos. But the board is still sitting in my barn. I guess with the price of wood now I can consider it an investment. It’s probably worth...

    Guitars and other musical instruments

I take my little Martin Backpacker sometimes. I wrap it in a heavy duty trash bag and duct tape it closed. I take church groups so it is helpful to lead singing of hymns or church songs. I plan to do some playing on an upcoming video. My daughter is a voice major in college, so if I can take her...

Ha ha! We have talked about how we might take it, but it is does not travel well. We do get some beautiful nights that would be perfect. Might have to build a traveling case. You are right, we typically don't portage. In east Texas we have some nice long stretches that you can spend several...

    ALPS Mountaineering Tent

Very cool! I have seen those on the San Marcos river. Actually, in this little clip the reason I say, "go Lilly go!" is because there is one coming down the river fast and I wanted her to jump before they go too close. This is the river they do the Texas Water Safari on.
