I ended up ordering the Esquif P16. REI got it in stock. It ships free to their local store, so that saved me a ton in shipping. It arrives in a couple of weeks. Can't wait to get it wet!
Well, I finally purchased an Esquif Prospecteur. REI finally showed their P16 in stock on their website. Shipping to the local store is free, so that saves me a ton of money. It is supposed to arrive on March 30. Not sure if it was coincidence, but I had some interaction with Esquif on...
My annual Father/Son canoe trip down they Neches River is in a few weeks. Can't wait to get on the water. Hoping to get on the water a lot more this year.
This was a good thread. I still haven't bought either. We ended up doing a kitchen addition to our house, so that's where all my money went last year. Hoping to make it happen this year. I'm leaning toward the Prospecteur 17. Just not sure how to get one down to Houston.
I do a lot of short 1-night trips that I don't do a lot of planning for. But if I am taking a multi-day trip I usually make a list and check it off before we leave. I tend to forget things if I don't.
Not at all wanting to be political. I was thinking along the lines of manufacturers like Wenonah, Novacraft, Bending Branches, or parks type accounts. Those are the kinds of accounts I have followed so far, but they don't post a lot.
Does anyone in here use Twitter? If so, who do you follow. I have an account @TXRiverRunner
Drop me your handle and I will follow you. Any recommendations on who is good to follow?
This reminds me of a story I was told on the side of a river. There was a Cajun feller from South Louisianna interviewing for a job. The interviewer had some tricky questions for him. He said, we have some math questions, but we want you to answer by drawing a picture.
The first question was...
This is not my usual full trip video. My son and I did a quick overnighter on the Neches River. Did not do much video? I plan to do a full Neches River video soon, but here is a 2-minute trip report on our fun time.
Put a new video together on how I plan meals for a canoe trip. Had a little fun with it. With guest appearances by Hank Williams and chef Justin Wilson!
Beautiful! It's already looking like fall up there and we are still over 100 degrees down here. Maybe September will bring relief and I can get back on the river.
A beat up old aluminum 18' Osagian that was missing a thwart bar and the gunwales had been tack welded back together. It was the first father/son canoe trip I went on with a big group of dads and boys. The good thing was that the camp box I took would not have fit in the canoe had that thwart...
Dutchware has a good deal on their 12' hammock right now. If you are tall a 12 footer can make a big difference in comfort.

I have looked at the Mad River Explorer, but it only comes in 16' and I prefer a 17' canoe. Mainly because I usually take 2 children along and having that extra foot gives just enough space so one can sit on the cooler. I am not opposed to buying used, but it is hard to find canoes down here...
