Blue Steel Layup Inspection / Repair Advice

Like @Alan Gage said, Epoxy sticks to pretty much anything except Polyethylene. It's also easily available in smaller quantities if you don't already have vinyl ester resin around. I also would use basic 6oz E-glass. Don't see a reason to spring for the S-glass in this context. Also would...

    glassing the inside

Fully wet out glass will be water-impervious, at least unless it gets bent enough to break some of the fibers away from the epoxy; Then you might get some weep holes. (This generally only happens when it gets hit hard enough to come close to delaminating things.) Ideally, wet out glass (without...

    glassing the inside

As a counterpoint/dissenting opinion, I'd ask you to consider your use conditions. Many of the areas that I canoe have a very fine, gritty sand/silt combo. It sticks in every little dimple in that open weave, and you can't avoid tracking it into the canoe. An alternative might be to use...

    Re-webbing a seat

Maybe a pair of heavy pliers? I've webbed seats from scratch before. You do need to apply a good amount of force - hand grip won't cut it.

Blue Steel Layup Inspection / Repair Advice

Crickets? Well... I've never worked with this stuff, so please take what I say with an appropriate level of seasoning. I'm not too worried about the scuffs - though they appear to be more than handling marks! Scuffs in the gelcoat will probably buff out, or can be filled and buffed with some...

Time to build again - Short solo/kid's tandem

A user on one of the other boatbuilding forums taglines as "It's really rather difficult to build an ugly wooden boat." I've done the shear-following thing on all of my strip builds as well, and probably would need to learn otherwise if I do another one. For fairing, I think the important part...

    Strip canoe delamination

I've had a similar failure under a seat cleat. (Similar to what's shown in This post) In my case, I think it was due to a sharply applied peel load that flexed the hull. I've only just repaired that one a few weeks ago, so take the following with a grain of salt. I'd probably approach the...

That looks good enough that I've bookmarked the recipe. Did you actually use salmon, or some other species?

Time to build again - Short solo/kid's tandem

I must applaud your choice of beverage, sir! I must confess that, in the interests of drinking as much of the stuff as I'd like, I'm thinking about taking a second try at brewing it myself. The little buggers do tend to add up. I think that build is going to look just fine. Simple and to-the-point.

    What3words?

IDK, I work phone customer service, and the ways that people can mess up numbers - familiar numbers, like their own phone or ZIP - in low-stress contexts has to be experienced to be believed, plus all the issues with audio distortion. I would not want to try to get my customers to be precise...

The Strange Things You See on the River

I was thinking that the original picture looked more like "rail" than "road". There would probably have been more bridge on the shore-side of that... pileing?... not really an abutment. It looks like at least 3, maybe 4 sections in the overhead.

Ohh... Looking forward to it. Was this the hull that was being designed last time I was playing with a solo design?

I'll say! Some of the commercially available stuff is half or more added sugar by weight.

I might have a look, when they're back in operation. I've found I have a liking for dried blueberries, which are not cheap around here. I'm primarily targeting things that would work well in a granola.

Possibly side point: where do you get decent-priced fruit? I'm trying to meat/beat pricing of off-the-shelf dried fruit from Wally-World.

Looking to build a low volume, poleable tandem to set up as a solo

I can confirm from recent experience that Delftship free edition is still alive and well. For those that don't run windows, it behaves perfectly under WINE. I suspect that these two are related. A hull with a flat bottom and enough beam to provide some static stability will by its nature be...

    Your emergency canoe repair kit?

I've used Gorilla Tape a bit. Once it adheres, it really does stay put in the water. I used it on an unfilled (rough) dacron cloth, and it didn't like that. It's much happier on smooth surfaces.

    Canoe Restoration

That would probably be my approach. This does hinge on whether or not the interior glass is still functional. If the interior glass is bad, then @Alan Gage is correct, and a new build would be easier, as in my experience the interior glass job is the hardest part for a new builder. Well, I'm...
