I do more skillet baking in the woods. Made yeast bread in a skillet on the fire every other day in the Quetico last summer. Recipe was similar to english muffins, and excellent with fried walleye.

I just finished perusing two new (to me) books. Both by Edward Cave, published 100 years ago. The Boy Scout Hike Book, and the Boy Scout Camp Book. digital versions of the hike book are online, but I wanted my own paper copy for my collection.

My last two summers included fishing based wilderness trips. One on Lake Superior, the other in the Quetico. The fishing was superb in both.

As a teacher, my availability is dictated by the school calendar. Thus, during the summer months I am avail midweek.

We should try to plan something around the same time/place so we can meet other members. We don't need to camp together (although some might). But if a bunch of us were at say, Little Tupper, or St Regis, or Algonquin PP, we could at least visit. Thoughts?

Interesting. I spent two weeks in Quetico last summer. I did not find the costs or regulations to be too much. Had some of the best fishing of my life. Campsites are few and far between, but more often than not we had the entire lake to ourselves for this very reason. Some lakes, especially on...

Depends on the trip. However the majority is an evernew 600mL pot, a plastic cup and spoon. I cook and eat right out of the pot. Sometimes I bring a tiny fire grate (rack from a toaster oven).

While not bannock, I have been making quick rise yeast breads in the skillet. Usually english muffins. I let the dough rise for only 30 minutes. Mmm. We have these on our food plan for our 14day Quetico trip coming up.

I was just at Lows Lake last weekend. I had hiked over from Wanakena, was checking out some neat features on the map and thought to see the conditions of the carry between lows and the oswegatchie. Lots of bear and moose sign.
