Grade A boat or a second?

From my experience with selling restored Kevlar canoes, a patched hull never sold for anything near what a non patched hull of the same vintage would fetch. A dealer knows this and the price of a new patched hull should be adjusted imo.

Wood Canvas Canoes/Steve Lapey/White Rose Canoe

Steve is a really nice guy, he has done a lot for the WCHA and his New England chapter of that group is very active thanks to his leadership. His annual meetings in the Boston area are a big hit with the group and well attended. I went on a group canoe trip in downeast Maine with him once, a lot...

    Steam box ideal length

I used to use a steam box, it was about 6’ long. A friend told how he used the bag method so I gave it a try and never went back to the box. I use a Coleman 2 burner stove with an old pot to hold the water, and I cut a hole in the lid for the automobile heater hose that carry’s the steam to the...

Things you've found on a canoe trip

I found this item near a run down trappers cabin in LaVerendrye, Quebec. It might have something to do with Gil nets as there is a falls nearby (Chute Henault), but I’m not sure. I also found a nice filet knife hanging on a tree at a campsite. I also returned to a campsite on the Marshall...

Mapping, tracking and tripping vicariously the Marshall Loop, Ontario

At the point he is now (2nd campsite) I had already camped 3 nights and was approaching my 4th campsite (iirc). I found the walleye fishing so good I fished the bottom of every portage and Gripp Lake. Great memories!

Mapping, tracking and tripping vicariously the Marshall Loop, Ontario

I’m not sure what they mean, one is the start of the trip and I believe he did camp there, the second flag is at his first portage. There is a symbol where he camped the second night on Grip Lake, looks like a backwards E, not sure what it’s called.

Mapping, tracking and tripping vicariously the Marshall Loop, Ontario

Looks like he stopped at a small campsite at the narrows, I saw a cow and calf moose behind the site when I camped there.

Gamma said he wouldn’t mind if I share some of my pics of the circuit that corresponds to his tracking. Here’s two of his current location this morning, the 1 mile portage trail from his truck to the lake and the put in at Marshall Lake. I hope he has less wind than I encountered...

    Which Subaru?

We have owned 3 Foresters in the last 15 years or so, the first two had head gasket issues which forced us to trade both in before we wanted to. I was assured by Subaru that they had solved the head gasket issue so we bought our third. I recently smelled antifreeze from the 3rd one so we...

Does canoeing northern areas reduce the luster of the southern areas?

My Canadian trips didn’t alter my desire to go to the Adirondacks and Maine, I just made an effort to go off season to them and saved my summer trips to the near north of Canada. I have been the first into Lows in the Adk, maybe close to the last too, and I’m pretty sure the last to Poland pond...

Same here, I doubt if my wife would allow it in the house. You can see the extra wanigan ribs below the thwart.

Free- 1/3 of an old Keewaydin tripping canoe-Maine

Years ago I salvaged this old Keewaydin Canoe Camp (Vermont) tripping canoe just before it was destined to the burn pile. The other half was beyond repair, as determined by the camp, it was cheaper to build a new one. Anyway, I’m never going to make a bookshelf out of it so I thought maybe...
