    Deer camp canoe trip

Dude! You're being way too hard on yourself. My boyfriend and I are in our late twenties and paddling 14 miles to set up a hot tent in the wind and rain would be a struggle for the two of us together, never mind solo. About the hunting.. Them's the breaks, right? I have a friend who drove way...

    Pre-trip refreshments

Apparently sunscreen only lasts about six months after being opened. After that, it's just what you said: nothing but a grit-on-skin attractant. I should do this before I put things away. Pretty horrible to realize on day five of a two week trip that both tubes of Polysporin are at home in the...

    October in the Kawartha Highlands

Yeah, how does that happen?! We luckily weren't out when the hailstorm hit this summer, but we did have the canoe on the roof of our car in preparation for a trip. I was worried it would get dented but she weathered the storm just fine.

    October in the Kawartha Highlands

GRS Riverrider ding ding ding! You win. I'll have to think of a prize. Robin haha yeah! The Happy Adventure is our canoe. She's named after Farley Mowat's Boat Who Wouldn't Float and thankfully has not lived up to her namesake.

    October in the Kawartha Highlands

We were blessed with perfect weather of driving rain and 5C temperatures as we set out, but after all was said and done we had a great first time in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park a few weekends ago. Hope you enjoy the report!

    Origami Style Folding Reflector Oven

You just saved yourself $85 by making your own oven and not buying the Svante! Nicely done. Probably saves about three pounds of weight, too.. My oven is HEAVY. Here's a quick recipe for you to try out: 1 chopped jalepeno (fresh or dehydrated) 1 cup Bisquick Large handful grated old cheddar...

    Campfire Baked Apples

I had originally planned to make it in the reflector oven, but the fire grate at our site wouldn't fit ours. We carried it for nothing, so we needed to replenish those wasted calories with ALL THE BUTTER

    Campfire Baked Apples

If you haven't clogged your arteries enough with Hot Buttered Rum, you can use the same compound butter to make some tasty stuffed and baked apples over the campfire. Enjoy!

Any experience or reviews of Abitibico canoes?

They have excellent options for customization. Their collaboration with Norquay Co is just beautiful, but it adds quite a lot to the price. You should also check out completepaddler.ca - they're based in Toronto, but offer free shipping across Canada. The owner, Kelly, is a really cool dude. I'm...

Adirondack ice out Hot Tent Gathering

If I can get together hot-tenting gear this year, I would love to come! Hopefully the canoe/life partner and I get our sh't together soon. It would be neat to go somewhere other than our Ontario "backyard". I'll let him know about it and get back to you. Now I just need to save money for the...

Hot Buttered Fun... I mean, Rum

Haha, no, I wish! We've been out since we got back from Temagami and have had to make do with regular old boring Bailey's. I just checked my LCBO app and the closest place I can buy it is in Oakville and we live in New Toronto :( Hopefully they'll bring some more in for the Christmas season!

Hot Buttered Fun... I mean, Rum

It would probably work fine with ghee or clarified butter, but you wouldn't get the same pretty milk-fat lacing and creamy layer on top of the drink. It would mix and freeze well, I think

Hot Buttered Fun... I mean, Rum

Hey guys! It's cold-weather canoeing season, so here's a little something to keep you warm after a hard day's paddle. Cheers!

Painters Drop Cloth Tarp Project (Pic & Text Heavy)

I'd probably get too frustrated cutting the fabric to ever get around to actually sewing the thing, hahahahaha. I've been looking on wintertrekker and reading and studying the patterns in Snow Walker's Guide and I've gone cross-eyed and pretty much quit before I started. There's a lot to learn...
