Gahhhhhhhhhh! I didn't hear any, but I have in Algonquin before. They were probably watching us the whole time, waiting for us to get fat on hot buttered rum

Snowed in on Rain Lake, Algonquin PP November 2015

This one was a doozy. What was planned as an easy "front-country" trip to Rain Lake in Algonquin ended up being much more adventurous than we believed possible.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Mmm, an all-dark meat turkey sounds perfect for me. I hate dry white turkey breast. Gimme the greasy legs and I'm happy. Should have nabbed that turkey when I had the chance.

    Stuck in Snow in Algonquin

tump_lion the permit station isn't open, and none of the sites are reservable, BUT you can call the park the day of and give your credit card info over the phone, they'll give you a booking number, and you just write it down and leave it on your car's dashboard. scoutergriz yikes. I was worried...

    Campfire Baked Apples

scoutergriz normally I'll rearrange the giant rock piles into more manageable three-wall pits and prop up the back of the oven if I have to, but in the Kawartha Parks site we were at, they had an iron fire ring and grate so I used tinfoil and a pot to make an "oven" instead. Oh, I also have a...

    Stuck in Snow in Algonquin

Ha! Glad we aren't the only ones. Wait though, what big hill? There was definitely a big hill we drove over, too. About 8-10 km in. It's the one Andrew worried about when we went back to test the road again on Saturday. On Sunday we couldn't even drive out of the parking area.

    Stuck in Snow in Algonquin

Soooooo, we went out this weekend to Algonquin Park and this happened. Drove up Friday night, camped at the "jump off" site at the Rain Lake access point. Packed up Saturday to make sure we could make it out on the forest access/logging road. Drove out 20km, determined we were okay, turned...

    October in the Kawartha Highlands

tump_lion it was our first time in the area, and we loved it, too! Lovely little cottages around there. My canoe/life partner's family has had a home on lake Rosseau in Muskoka for about a hundred years (one of the last remaining houses that isn't a hockey player's mansion) and the landscape...

    October in the Kawartha Highlands

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. sweeper hahaha I was like, "hmm, maybe I'll artfully arrange this birchbark and shine the headlamp that way and.." It was very contrived and still goofy. But thank you. It looked cooler while I was taking it, which was under the influence of red wine and rum...
