Well I have a 3/4 ton 4x4 p/u.... I loaded everything from big heavy royalex canoe to super light racing(real racing canoes) canoes and a mix up of everything. Most of our boats are composites, with some royalex from 11 feet solo ww canoes to 18 feet tripping canoes and pretty much everything in...

My bars are wide enough for three full side tripping canoes, but when not, we place the third canoe on top of the first two in a pyramid form.. run the straps into the other two canoes straps and bingo!!

So here is how I fix cracked or damaged paddle shafts! I cut out the damaged part in a “moon crescent” Way and then I cut thin strips of the wood to be use for the repair that then get laminated with epoxy into the “crescent” clamped down and after it is cured shape as desired and refinish!!

So I will show you a way that I patch a few paddles that were actually cracked.... I’ll take picture tomorrow and post them here!! It is a bit a work but the result is fantastic!! stay tuned !!

I think the the right way to fibreglass a cedar canvas canoe is to canvas it first and the glass over that so repairs can easily be done in the long run!! as for you driving up here it wouldn’t be that much gas.... maybe it would but first we need to find a proper boat and trailer....

Time and space is a problem for me to built one! I think I will wait and do a road trip back east in the next year or two and pick one up in Prévost a 22’ canot norwest, they are the best and really well made, they always seems to have some refurbish one too!!
