    Pin Kit

4-3-2-1... 4 larges locking biners, 3 pulleys, 2 prussiks and one piece of 1” tubular webbing(about 2m) that is all! Like with first aid kit, if everyone carry basic stuff you usually have enough of everything between members to be sufficient in executing first aid or an extraction!!

    Canoes and guns...

Up here you are not slowed to hunt squirrels, unless you own a trap line and then you can shoot or trap them! They are considered fur barrier just like mink, beavers and so on!!

Death in the Wilderness: What do you do with the body?

Well I must be wrong, 97-98 must not have been the time we use to rent them, must have been after 2003!

    Stoves for the backcountry.

Since I deal with wood, I always have gloves, all the pots and pan are stored in a “canvas” bag and that goes into our wanigan! The pots are cleaned only on the I side and basically stay black on the outside! Not a problem really! As for fire it is for us the easies, fastest and simplest way of...

Death in the Wilderness: What do you do with the body?

Well we use to rent them at the shop I worked for 24 years ago and they weren’t new then! Spot was not the first one or at least it wasn’t the first beacon! It was the first one of its type but PLB’s were available before that, seem like they got first adopted in around 1982.... but I’m not sure...

Death in the Wilderness: What do you do with the body?

You leave the body right where it is, you cover it the best you can, I would probably stay close to where the body is for at least the first week, you have his rations so 15 days of it so I should cover the needs for two guys for a week and make sure you make signs visible from the sky, keep a...

    Stoves for the backcountry.

We do 95% of our cooking on fire using a CRCO fire box(older model, they changed them in the last year or so and they are not as good) the one we have a great for up to 6 people and I wouldn’t go any smaller but I would love to go lighter hahaha! we also use different types of camps stoves from...

Just purchased 16' Esquif Prospecteur T-Formex, should I get the 17' foot instead?

Still 10 lbs is a lot of weight above the spec weight, but marketing is more important than truth, and not wanting to bash on esquif, but over the years they’ve been strong on marketing especially regarding there T-formex

Just purchased 16' Esquif Prospecteur T-Formex, should I get the 17' foot instead?

You also have to be careful because T-former as more than variation in weight, variations in stiffness(or softness) and that can be really bad, when your new canoe after a season or two start oil canning it really suck!!

Just purchased 16' Esquif Prospecteur T-Formex, should I get the 17' foot instead?

If there is no reall white water where you plan on tripping I would ditch the plastic and get something lighter stiffer faster that will last longer! It would be easy to find a 16-17 foot tripping canoe in a tough layup that will weight less than 65lbs, for exemple I paddle à Hellman Slocan in...

    My new shoes...

The narrowest shows I ever used are 12x60 the one I used the most are 16x42 and those new ones are 20x30, I didn’t spend enough time in the latest one, but that might change this weekend, we are hopping to go for a day bison hunt!! Anyway, I never had any trouble with the other two width and the...

You should and the price is good!! The problem I had is at my weight none of those would float me well... so that is why I went with 20x30 and plus I have 2 other pairs with tails that are long and wanted something short and round for tight forest and willow bashing.... and plus they will be...
