    Lash tab PFD “rescue” knifes

I settled on crkt (?) Bear claw. Both that and the gerber river knives are greatly imprived by adding a loop of shock cord from the back of the knife up over the sheath. Trauma shears tuck directly into the lash tab. They are cheap and effective.

    Recommendations for fixed blade knife

Mora, pick one you like. I prefer the carbon clippers. Cheap, and very good. If you dont like it, i will buy it from you.

    PFD avoidance issues

Most of my paddle time these days is teaching whitewater. When doing so I like the Astral Greenjacket. When solo tripping, I wear an old school MRC jacket with vertical sticks of foam. It is also most of my mattress. Not too hot with good movement. I use MTI cruisers for my rentals.

    PFD avoidance issues

I am glad you are thinking about it. Wearing a PFD is a personal choice. I believe if you paddle enough, you will experience, or hear about a case where a PFD would have saved a life. I work in river safety for th NPS. Each year we have several deaths. In almost every case the person...

    Wetsuits

Of the 3 ideas (change of clothes, wet suit, dry suit, ) I have these thoughts. 1. Change of clothes. This works surprisingly well, if you can get out of the water, and your dry bag is leak free. 2. Wet suit. Did this in a week long trip on the Buffalo in March of 2000. Was comfortable, but...

    Sander choices

OK, I have yet to build a boat, but I am a full time cabinet maker, and this is a juicy problem. We love Festool, all except the sanders. They are powerful, we just hate how they feel in the hand. We use 5" PSA paper in the shop (Indasa) and would like to find a RO sander we like...

    BandAid B#$%@

In our shop we use a few. Band-aid brand tough strips purchased by the 100 count box do the trick. The shorter tab is more than 1/8". Could be better...

Hung seat vs sliding bucket in a Magic?

Both of my Magics have breaks in the inner gunwales. Those rails are thin, and the gunwale screw and seat hanger bolt are too close. Both boats broke with stock seats and hangers. One of them suffered more stress from a home built cantilevered yoke, hung off of the seat. I made new walnut...

    What have you left behind?

A university trip 2 years back was outfitted with nice Foxworx Microlight paddles + 1 extra for the trip. One morning everyone left the beach, each with a paddle, the spare left in camp. From now on, it is not the group that carries a spare, one person has 2 paddles.
