A warning. A portage yoke design similar to Jim's above, put too much stress on my Bell Magic's gunwales. All of the stress is focused on the forward fasteners. I like the design, but suggest strengthening the gunwale at this point.

I worked for a time for Wild Rivers. We had a fleet of Blue Hole Sunbursts we used for tandem river running. The size worked well for tandem teams up to 275 lbs total.

I buy blades here. Many choices below $20. Then I just pick out some cool scrap wood, antler etc. and epoxy the blade into the handle.

I find it difficult to stay warm in an open Canoe in a wet suit. Works OK in a kayak when combined with a dry top. I too am fortunate to have a dry suit. Also, Canoe specific pogies.

I don't do crowds, but I know the people at Mountain Man. I know they work hard to put on a good show. It should surprise nobody that they are trying to make money.
