Drone Footage & The Beauty Of The Canoe

Check the drone footage from The Ausable Canoe Marathon: from approximately minute 7:00 to 10:00. To me, this is very dramatic and beautiful footage that epitomizes what the canoe represents. Thanks and I hope you enjoy. https://youtu.be/wD8AfiNJiBA

    Canoecopia 2020

May I make the suggestion that the cancellation of a locally sponsored event such as Canoecopia be a reminder to us. It should remind us that we need to support those businesses, organizations, clubs, etc. that promote and support the activities on which we thrive. Renew your appreciation for...

    Zippers, and zipper care?

Keeping the zipper slider clean, lubricated (silicone spray, or lubes as mentioned above) and not forced will extend the slider life. If you do need to replace a slider, add an extra slider or one on each end. This will let you have a spare, emergency slider if the old one wears out. Just clip...

    Very Simple Trangia Modification

I have a very simple Trangia modification for the pot gripper. It is so simple that someone else has probably done it but I am not aware of it. It involves bending the inner jaws of the Trangia pot gripper outward, so that they are even with and on the same plane as the outer jaws. This is done...

    Closing out our paddling season

Hi Jim, Thanks for your work on the AWARE. We are able to recycle a good portion of the trash. Any usable stuff (beach toys, boat bumpers, PFD’s, etc.) is given away on Craigslist. The balance is discarded. We we’re surprised at how much trash we carried out from the BWCA. Most was gear or...

    Closing out our paddling season

The weather has turned unseasonably cold, there is ice on the lakes and we just stored the boats away. It is time for our paddling season’s summary: We were fortunate to be able to start our season with a twelve day Spring trip on the Headwaters of the Mississippi River. Toward the end of the...

How to Solo Lift a Canoe

As far as I can tell, no one has talked about or shown getting the boat in portage position from the water and not dry land. My wife and I are “wet-footers” and try to be tender with are boat. It can be a very different lift when you are knee to waist deep in water and have slippery, rocky...

Need advice on replacing Wenonah rivets

I need some advice from anyone who has experience in removing and replacing rivets in Wenonah canoes that use the imbedded aluminum plates. I assume you might use a bit stop to prevent drilling through the outside when removing the old rivets. Is the remaining rivet body left in the foam core or...

    Sponges

We keep a sponge in all of our boats. They are used to wipe down the inner and outer of the boat, mainly to help prevent the spread of invasive species. We pick up a lot of trash, so they essential for us. We have used grout sponges, the fabric-covered sponges, etc. The best one that we have...

Stowing a painter line to the top of a flotation tank.

To get the line into use, just pull the entire coil from the shock cord. There is enough stretch in the cord to do so. Otherwise, unfasten the shock cord and it will stay attached to the canoe.
