Help me understand downloadable maps, please

Thank you, recped and Ralph. I am thinking Cal Topo is beyond my level at this point, even with the kind instructions. Ralph, I am working my way through your instructions. Thank you. For everyone, it's like reading in a foreign language, what you all are writing. Even if I know the...

    Luxuries for a broke back

I found the name of the company that sells lightweight sylnyl tarps: Etowah Gear Etowah Gear Tabs are sewn in. Bag with toggle tie attached. Seems very good quality for much, much less than other places. There are some very lightweight titanium stakes now so you can take a few extra stakes...

Thank you for all the suggestions. Ralph, it turns out I have Topo Maps Canada on my phone…must be from some previous attempt at understanding these things. So, i open the app, I get the base map and navigated to Lake Nipigon, ON, and randomly selected Gull Bay. I selected to download the Gull...

I use various bags, boots, Pfd, etc to level up the floor or brace my back or feet. Usually works.

Help me understand downloadable maps, please

Here is the context: I have a trip planned for this summer in Canada and have purchased all the paper maps. No problem there. But, I want to have a Plan B trip in reserve. I don’t want to invest in maps for Plan B especially because that could change depending on fires. So, should I have to...

    Missinaibi River

I was looking at Woodland Caribou. There have been many fires over the past few years resulting in blackened camping areas and portage trails with many downed partially burned trees. The recommendation was to skip Woodland Caribou unless you were planning on a very rough trip.

    north east storms

I’m headed up to Vermont for a family reunion. I had a reservation at a riverside inn. Then my cousin arranged for me to stay at an Airbnb closer to town, so I canceled the inn reservation. My cousin emailed last night that the inn washed away into the river!

    Luxuries for a broke back

I like this set up: It uses a CCS tarp, but you can also make your own. This is by Hoop_ if you know him from another forum. I think this answers your question. Minimum number would be this set up. I’ve found it works well even in storms.

New Rhode Island Law Makes Wearing PFD Mandatory for All

Years ago I took the Everglades National Park boat tour in Chokoloskee Bay. The guide, following I am certain are the guidelines, told us where all the life jackets were stored. But, he added on his own I’m sure, if the boat sinks, we will not need them. The boat will settle to the bottom in...

I spent several hours checking each and every tent and company suggested here. Thank you all!!!! Binoculars.

The Swarovski and Zeiss are out of my price range. I went to Bass Pro and looked through many different binoculars. I ended up getting a Leupold BX-4 Pro Guide HD Binoculars - 12X - 50mm. They are exceptionally good. (I will note, I refused to even look through the Swarovski and Zeiss...

New tents: they all have too much inner screens

Hello Aslowhand - The Venus II looks good, but is sold out, or available for $1200, which is higher than I can go. Hello Yellowcanoe - I realize some of the tents with mesh doors have a rain fly which will cover the door. This type of construction still allows wind to rush is under the fly and...
