Here is a four-part video series from the Lower Columbia Canoe Club, which is based in Portland, Oregon. It brings back fond memories to me. I ran a continuous class 3+ section of the Hood River with the LCCC in 1986 while I was in Portland/Beaverton on a business trip helping IBM negotiate a supercomputer contract. The club was virtually all open canoes in that era, and they were very good. Some had just returned from an eastern trip paddling the Cheat Canyon, which I had paddled a couple of times by then.

I brought my own drysuit and one of the paddlers loaned me his Mad River ME. I didn't care for it because it was the earlier 14" depth ME, whereas I was used to my 15" depth MEs. So, I traded for a Blue Hole OCA to run a climactic rapid I only recall being called the "Big One."

A renowned club on the West Coast. I have never been able to join a club, but it is a fast way to learn from some really skilled paddlers.

Those videos seem to pre-date whenever rolling became a thing. These days you see people rolling canoes and I'm always impressed. I'd love to give it a try.
