Jim Henry is back and just designed a canoe for Adirondack Canoe Co.

"Legendary canoe designer Jim Henry and his son Dana recently teamed up with ACC to release the Trapper, the first model in a new line of canoes labeled Henry Designed."


The article provides some good historical info about Jim Henry, Mad River Canoe, and the Adirondack Canoe Co. and its 50-year-old affiliate, Essex Industries.

Very cool! As for me I totally get the cult following and love my two '90's MRs.

Exciting. I've never paddled or poled an Explorer but they seem to have a real cult following. Weight is a deterrent to me on the Rx Explorers but maybe there will be something similar in the ACC line up soon.

I didn't realize the Malecite was the first boat Henry designed. I like mine. The more paddling experience I've gotten and different boats I've paddled the more I appreciate it.

The Explorer is another winner. I never owned one, but they are lighter and faster than my OT Tripper and did just about everything else about the same. Maybe not as stable though as I very unexpectedly flipped one doing an eddy turn in a rapid.

I don't think I knew that either. That's quite an accomplishment, being that successful on the first try.

There are newer designs I'd prefer now, but not so much that I'd bother to replace my Malecite.

When I first saw this thread and read the article, I was a little disappointed that this wasn't about a composite resurrection of the Guide or Freedom Solo. But now that I looked at the ACC website, I see that they kind of have that niche covered already.
