Hanging or storing a canoe off floor in a garage with vehicles

Well, I finally got around to building a rack on casters, inspired by @Carp 's design. It's a bit ugly but all the lumber and the pipes were random materials I already had in the garage. The gap between the middle and top rows looks excessive, but allows you to flip the middle boat over for easier loading onto shoulders (plus I had to lower it an extra 2 inches to avoid a giant knot where I was going to drill the hole for the pipe). Still work to do on organizing the garage, but now I've got a little more breathing room.

Just had an incident with my storage arrangement. I store my Yakima crossbars in my canoe in the off season (no point having them still on the car all winter). A cover that conceals the tension mechanism on one of the bars popped off. Hit the hood of my wifes car and put a hearty scratch through her vinyl wrap.

Luckily she didn’t take it as badly as I first feared. Guess I can get the hood rewrapped next spring if it truly bothers her. And yes…I’ll make sure those covers are locked on from now on.
