Thanks in advance.

Hi Doogie, and welcome to the forum. There should be plenty of good used canoes on the Richmond Craigslist. If you want a new boat, check out the Appomattox River Company. Their main store is in Farmville, and well worth the trip. They used to have a satellite location near Ashland, but I am not sure it still exists.

Hello and welcome Doogie, yes like UCanoe_2 said. Starting out with a good used canoe is a great way to figure out what you like while saving some bucks. And Appomattox River Company is only an hour and half from you. It's fun to go drool, slobber and cry on some nice expensive new canoes. I do that in Knoxville TN at River Sports. They hate cleaning up after I visit.

Updated my profile with location, Richmond, VA (actually Mechanicville but Richmond is local "big city")

Welcome to the site! My in-laws did a pastoral stint on the other side of the city, in Centralia.

Forgot to mention I have a Coleman Ram-X 15' but that is getting a little too much for me to handle loading into the truck by myself. Would get a Ram-X 13' but I understand they don't make that anymore.

Went to Appomattox River Co. website and see they have the Old Town Discovery Sportsman, looks like a perfect fit at only 54 lbs. Only drawback might be the low sitting position for an old guy, so I'll sit in one before I buy.

Checking Craigslist from time to time for a gem which is how I found the Rzm-X for $100 ten years ago.
