1st Knife Recommendations

We all have our own right and wrong answers. Personal biases and fantasies abound. Makes it a colourful world.
I read recently an article in which a dozen or so chefs and food writers gave their opinions about their one and only favourite knife in the kitchen (home or professional). There were nearly as many different choices as there were choosers. Drastically different prices and several differing designs. I didn't expect that. Seems there are a myriad of favourite blades all basically doing the same thing and for the same reasons; they feel right and they perform well. Go figure.
As much as we try to shepherd our kids and gkids in the "right" direction eventually they need to find their own paths for their own reasons.
I still struggle with that.

We presented the Opinel to him. When we arrived in camp he quickly started whittling. It wasn't long before I hear "Grampy, do we have any bandaids?" It was a minor laceration. I believe it gave him more respect for blades.

His dad had also bought him a knive. He went with a Victorinox. My wife also sent a small Cabelas branded multi-tool that had been collecting dust in a junk drawer. The kid is well armed and happy.
