The Adirondack Freestyle Canoe Symposium at Paul Smiths College is a fun event, especially since the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association's gathering is that same week. I've attended three of the AFCS events and always learn something new. The Building Blocks courses are a good refresher on the fundamentals of boat control and there's a whole series of more advanced instruction. Considering the venue and level of instruction it's money well spent. Plus you get to hang out with a bunch of great folks that enjoy talking about canoes and canoeing.
