This is a very detailed article about this gem of a paddling place, which is an apparent alternative to the BWCA.

". . . the interior of Voyageurs National Park in northernmost Minnesota remains accessible only by watercraft. Nearly 40 percent of this unique national park’s 218,000 acres is comprised of lakes and rivers, dotted with around 500 granite islands. Four vast interconnected lakes sprawl 56 miles along the Canadian border, and the Kabetogama Peninsula wilderness shelters chains of smaller lakes. So it’s no surprise the park is one of Minnesota’s most rewarding canoeing destinations."
