I've been canoeing on and off since around 1985. Mostly in the Adirondacks of NY state. I've also canoed a little in Northern Quebec, Canada. Just north of Senneterre. I have also been on one trip to Algonquin Park in the province of Ontario. I'm not as active as many folks on this site. I'd consider myself a novice paddler. My love for the canoe started in the 80's as a teen dragging my 17' Mad River canoe up crazy portages in the Adirondack park. I was a one trip portage type of guy and carried 2 back packs, my canoe, two paddles and 2 fishing rods all at the same time. That is most likely why I have had several back surgeries in the past. Now, I'm once again looking forward to canoeing again in the spring. Possibly with a new light weight solo canoe. I currently have an Old Town 146 Saranac. I purchased it just to leave on the Schoharie reservoir for fishing. It's far too heavy to portage any distance at my age and with a bad back.
