Best Places to Live in the US for Canoeing?

North Alabama is NOT the place. If that's any help. The "River" is huge and it's either a barge channel or a giant shallow mud hole. Any smaller creeks/streams are either an inch deep or have a thousand drunks floating them on coolers every weekend. Not that I'm bitter about it 😄

    Multi Tools

I've carried the same Leatherman Charge in my pocket every day of my life for the last 23 years. And it's seen very heavy use as a mechanic for a lot of that time. My warranty will be up in two years and I'll finally replace it. When I do, I'll buy another Charge or maybe the new Arc. The...

    Peak Refuel Freeze Dried meals

I have enjoyed several of the Peak meals as well. I think they may be my favorite of the readily available complete freeze dried meals.

Help me upgrade from my current solo: Wenonah Vagabond

Thanks man! And you're telling me I NEED a new carbon paddle? ....noted. And agreed. ;) Soon as the bruises to my bank account heal up, it will be on the radar!

Help me upgrade from my current solo: Wenonah Vagabond

How dare you...... 😄 I was just thinking that maybe I NEED a new paddle. I usually use a FOX Worx bent shaft but it almost seems to be too much motor with this new boat. I find myself having to purposefully ease up on the gas at times lol. Honestly though I do need a new straight shaft. I have...

Help me upgrade from my current solo: Wenonah Vagabond

Well fellas, after much agonizing over the model and the hundreds of reasons I shouldn't spend the money, I bought a boat. I got a Northstar Trillium in Blacklite. It was a hard choice between the Trillium and the Magic when I had them both in front of me, but I went with the Trillium based...

Solo Canoe Recommendations Needed for Rocky and Low Water Rivers

I have a Vagabond in Royalex that's 44#. I weighed it myself with a hanging scale I trust. It's certainly not fancy nor does it have much rocker. But it's a nice boat for smaller streams and has pretty good primary stability IMO. It will be for sale soon. I just bought my first composite...

    Which Subaru?

I've had a few Subarus over the years. Im a huge fan. They are simple, easy to work on, and usually pretty reliable. They have, and always have had, the best AWD system on the market. I've had Foresters, and Impreza wagons. If you want to sleep in one, and have the easiest canoe loading, get...

    Northstar Polaris

Id Believe me, if I thought for a minute I could carve out the time, I'd be all about a trip just like that! Sounds to me like you're doing it right. I like your style! ....the wheels are turning they just aren't getting anywhere 😁

Id love to have that. Just a short 30 hour drive to pick it up!

Carrying my canoe on a Tesla Model 3

I use the CamJam XT that's made for 2-5mm cord and I like it. I paired it with some PMI 4mm accessory cord and it bites down well. And my canoe is much heavier than that nice boat of yours! Trick looking setup you have there, looks like it works great from here!

I saw that one! I messaged him about it to see what layup it was, waiting to hear back.

Thank you very much for that. Great post, and very much appreciated! After seeing a few Northstars in person I can't disagree with you on the build quality. I was fairly surprised at the 4 examples I looked over at the dealer. It's a shame because they really seem to offer the most models that...

Help me upgrade from my current solo: Wenonah Vagabond

This is something that I had considered heavily. I have a co-paddler that tags along a lot of the time, and the idea of getting a new good canoe to fill both roles was very appealing. Through my looking around I believe you're right that the Polaris would be the best boat to pull it off...

I would love to, but don't have the space or time right now unfortunately. One day when I get some things caught up!
