    G-Flex 650 for R-84 Royalite Canoe

I'm pretty sure different manufacturers did have different versions of "Royalite". I bought an R-84 Mohawk Odyssey about 20 years ago so was paying attention to their descriptions. Here is a Mohawk ad page linked to on the Mohawk website Mohawk ad that describes the layers they used.

    G-Flex 650 for R-84 Royalite Canoe

IIRC, Mohawk advertised that their R-84 had vinyl on the inside surface and some other plastic on the outside surface so that outfitting their R-84 canoes could be done the same as for Royalex canoes, though gluing anything on the outside (such as skid plates?) could be more problematic.

Headlamps. Do you guys use 'em?

The original posting in this thread came at just the right time for me - thanks! Last weekend I was canoe camping and my primary headlamp, an older Black Diamond Spot, was slipping too much even after tightening the band. I decided that when I got home I'd need to make a point of finding some...

Biophobia is on the Rise—According to a Review of 196 Studies

Biotolerance is a separate issue from biophobia. Out in the wild wasp nests, fire ant mounds, and termites are tolerated as part of the environment but at home I grab a can of Bengal spray when cockroaches get in the house and sprinkle Amdro around when a fire ant mound pops up in the yard.

    Bell Flashfire 1993, immaculate condition

or in Louisiana ... I already have a flashfire but if that were closer I'd have a hard time resisting.

Candle Lantern: Safely use in a tent? How to clean?

As recped suggested, I'd probably try putting it in boiling water to get it unstuck enough to open. I've used solvent (might have been paint thinner) to clean the waxy coating off of the glass on mine. Candle lanterns provide so much nicer ambiance than LED lights. I don't use one in a tent...

    Kneeling and Knee Friction

I've been wearing LL Bean tropicwear pants for canoeing for years and had stocked up on extra pairs when they were on sale several years ago but I think I'm going to have to try different pants fabric and see if that reduces knee irritation. It may be that my 70 year old knees are more easily...

    Kneeling and Knee Friction

I've been pondering friction points involved with kneeling in a canoe. This is regarding kneeling with a flat pad, not knee cups or thigh straps. There are multiple contact points requiring friction to prevent sliding forward: boat to pad, pad to pants fabric, pants fabric to skin (I almost...

Button at the bottom right of the page “Back to top”

Not the sort of information I come looking for on CanoeTripping.net, but this is helpful! The PgUp and PgDn buttons and the Cntrl+arrow keys work as described with Firefox on my Windows10 computer. It is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I'd either forgotten or never learned those shortcuts and...

    Wenonah Solo Yoke Options/Alternatives

Thanks for the picture gumpus! I need to try adding some foam. My arms and neck aren't strong enough to safely carry much this way though.

    Wenonah Solo Yoke Options/Alternatives

The problem with attaching a yoke to the gunwales on a Wenonah solo with a floor mounted seat is that the seat frame is where your head would need to be. When getting my voyager on or off the car I briefly end up with it the seat frame tubes resting on the top of my head and the gunwales above...

    Foot/ankle support when kneeling

This makes sense, but in experimenting with different combinations of padding for knees I found that having a section of yoga mat (less than 1/4" thick) that extends under the seat for my feet to rest on helps a little with foot comfort when kneeling. I've always been pigeon-toed and my feet...

When do you use float bags?

Aside from providing flotation in case of a capsize, filling any empty space with float bags so that the canoe is packed to the gunnels when paddling in windy conditions can help a little with deflecting wind over the canoe rather than the wind pushing on the inside as much.

    Paddling in an Apocalypse

I'm not prepared to live off the land in some remote place even if I could get there and if there was an apocalyptic event I probably wouldn't know enough about what was going on in surrounding areas to know where to go even if I had the means. Shorter term evacuation, however, is something...
