Just stain over a finish doesn’t hold up but I have mixed stain into the varnish to make things a closer match. Just make sure the stain and varnish are compatible ie not water base and oiled base products.

I almost always run a circular saw blade on my table saw, most of my work is under two inches so I get a thinner kerf and more power from my old 1950’s craftsman saw.

To your concern Alan the upper part of the treads could be ground away so it spins freely when fully engaged but still needs to be unscrewed to be removed from the thwart. Just like the screw on a camera tripod.

If you want some Dynel fabric to experiment with and or enough for skids let me know and I’ll send you a bunch of fabric. I put a Dynel deck on a big boat years ago and kept the excess and trimming for some reason.

That’s not unlike the one I made and I like the use of the strap. I have some old straps the I wouldn’t use to secure a canoe anymore I’ll cut one down to an appropriate size.
